i used to use loreal recital light ash blond (the lightest blond) with out going to bleach.

i have long chocolate brown hair but needed to pre lighten with bleach first though, then the blond came up really nice for at least a year, then it needed pre lightening again.

without prelightening, it would still go a nice blond, but more of a medium blond/light brown...not yellow though!!

have you any colour on your hair to start? this may effect the results. it's really worth going to a hairdressers if you can afford it. it'll cost around £50 for a full head of highlights + a cut

good luck!! great time of year to go light!

Definitely absolutely go to a good reputable salon and book a colour consultation. Its not just your hair colour that's important but also your skin tone. Most salons will do a colour consultation for free, then you book an appointment to have it done afterwards if you want to go ahead. Seriously, these people go to college to learn this stuff; don't end up one of those people with hair from a supermarket shelf, cos you can spot them a mile away and it never looks natural.

this is not something that i recommend doing yourself, especially if you have already coloured hair. You will most likely end up with either a weird orangy colour, looking like huge chunks or leopard spots, or you will end up with very damaged hair that will be breaking off. Either way, not a nice look. Go and have a stylist do it, yes a little most expensive, but it is worth doing right the first time, rather that having to pay a stylist to fix if after.

I would reccomend you choose L'Oreal Perfect Blonde (highlighting kit), it comes out great, exactly as it says on the packaging, and looks exaclty the same as if you got it donw at a salon.

Check out the L'Oreal (Paris) Perfect Blonde link:

2 shades lighter than your original color. i like the highlights where theres dirty blonde, a lighter blonde, and another lighter blonde it looks pretty cool. and then just keep on adding more highlights every month.
