No, you don't have to have insurance on your primary veh's. You will have to take out the rental company's insurance, but if you were in an accident with the rental veh. Your gonna wish you had insurance on your other veh's. Because not only is the rental insurance expensive, it doesn't have as good of coverage as you normal auto insurance would. Meaning if you in an accident in the rental, any coverage that you have on one of your veh's would carry over. I would recommend taking pic's of the veh before you rent it, and after it, cuz even a little scratch on the rental is gonna cost ya..

You can rent a car without auto insurance of your own. You just have to purchase the liability, comprehensive and collision coverage offered by the rental car company. If you are out of the country in which you live (exception, live in US & renting in Canada), even if you have primary auto insurance, you will still need to purchase liability insurance with the rental car company.

When you rent a vehicle, insurance for basic coverage comes with it. You can also purchase additional coverage that will cover you if you damage it and it's your fault. The insurance on your car wouldn't cover the rental anyway, since insurance goes with the vehicle, not the driver.

You can purchase insurance from them, it will be higher though. You usually have to be over 21 to rent also, in most states anyway.

You must show proof of insurance, but you can opt to take out additional insurance from the rental company.

You will get insurance through the rental agency....it doesn't matter if you have private insurance or not.
