If I eat pancakes in the morning, I get all groggy and feel like dying. Then, after this feeling hits, I usually end up in and out of the bathroom several times until about noon, and then I just feel like napping the whole rest of the day. This is especially true if I wake up early (as in a normal hour people should wake up, like between 6am and 9am), because usually I sleep in until about 12pm. Sometimes this happens with waffles and french toast, too, but it's the worst with pancakes. Is it the syrup? Why do I feel like I'm going to die after eating pancakes?

It appears that you get to be a detective about your health and future wellness. Thanks for asking for input from the Yahoo community.

First off, our bodies attempt to tell us they've had 'enough' of a food source by doing exactly what you have described. The body tells us that the food is not good for us.

Secondly, the quality of wheat in the product you are consuming can be extremely poor or negligent in its quality. High speed rolling mills crush wheat kernals and the temperature of the mills evaporates the natural and healthy oil in the kernal. The removal of the oil increases the shelf life of the product, but lowers the healthy benefits of the grain. Ever notice the 'quality' of a fast food burger bun vs. that of your local grocery's locally produced bread company's bun? The whiteness of the fast food bun vs. the slightly colored bun is a big clue to the wheat grain processing.

Third, there are more people allergic or slightly allergic to wheat than is truly known to the medical community. If you pursue the ideas put forth by the man who wrote "Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type", Peter J. D'Adamo, you may find your body reacting much less to what you are eating. Eating sprouted grain bread (various brands available), rather than pancakes in the morning, changed my body's re-action to wheat. I do my best to not eat wheat products, but it is very hard not to when eating out. Wheat is pervasive in the USA due to the federal wheat subsidies.

Fourth, have you considered that you may be having symptoms which are that of a pre-diabetic condition if you are concerned about the syrup?

Making different food choices can bring about swift changes in your body. In about a week of no pancakes and no syrups for breakfast - no wheat for breakfast at all - you may see less swelling in your hands and face, too.

Good luck!

Its because when you eat pancakes or waffles or french toast or any breakfast cereal that is primarily fast sugars (what you get from the refined flour, syrup, and sugar in the pancakes), it boosts your blood sugar level up really high, really fast, giving you a lot of energy for a short amount of time. You could eat some fruit afterwards and you would slow the ''crash'' from your sugar high, which is what is happening to you. You should try to have a good balance of slow sugars and protein in every meal so you keep your hormonal balance and energy level constant throughout the day. Think of it as fueling the engine in a car. You wouldn't get very far if you just exploded all the gas in the tank at once, but if you let it in to the engine slowly, you can travel the gas's full potential.

It is all carbs and that brings your blood sugar up for a minute then u crash. If u like pancakes so well then just eat them on a day like Sat. when u don't have alot to do. This way u can take a nap and you'll feel better.Plus a banana will give u energy. So after your nap eat one.Does wonders.Good luck

It could be too much sugar. Syrup is basically sugar and the flour in pancakes and waffles is converted to sugar in your body. When my child was an infant and was constipated my doctor told me to put corn syrup in her bottle. It's like a natural laxative. I think any concentrated sugar is. Also, a rapid rise and fall in blood sugar will make you feel terrible. That's probably what's happening to you.

Because pancakes are a batter centered product
batter lays very hard on some people's stomach !!!
And, you may have a certain food allergy of sorts that has something that triggers from the contents !! If these products effect you negatively--- stay away from them --- there are dozens of superb choices for breakfast meals that are both healthy AND delicious-- simply choose from the other menu items !!!

you are very likely allergic to wheat. Does it happen when you eat other wheat things, such as bread, cakes, cookies, etc? Consider having allergy testing done, or eliminate wheat for a few weeks, then slowly add it back in to see if you react. Read labels-wheat is hidden in nearly everything, from salad dressings, condiments, and even vitamins and medications. If you are eating syrup with artificial ingredients, you could be allergic to something in it. Try all natural agave nector-its great and totally natural and free of artificial stuff. My daughter loves it on pancakes.

Pancakes are gross. They affect me the same way. I just stay away from them. The same thing doesn't happen with french toast or waffles though.

Maybe you have a wheat sensitivity?
