I noticed that we were starting to get ants. I use this product called Terro to kill them. The ants eat it and take it back to their colony and it kills them. I put it under the dishwasher and under the stove where my kitty can't get to it. But my cat likes to eat the ants and I was wondering if he eats an ant that has eaten the Terro if it will hurt him?

personally i would have thought it would take your cat to eat alot of ants before it does any damage, maybe you could contact the ant powder company or your vet to get more specialised advice

I have always used the Grant's ant stakes in the house and garden because the holes are so tiny the cats can't possibly get at the stuff. And ants haven't been a problem for me for a number of years. I remember times on getting up in the morning when there would be a long line of ants in the kitchen and the cats would be there staring at them as they moved across the floor - they never ate any.

Ants are so tiny you would think the cats wouldn't be harmed by eating a few. Secondary poisoning could be an issue in your case. I would definitely try the cinnamon suggestion though. If that will works for you you would not have any worries about poisoning.

Just to be on the safe side, I'm going to say yes. Have the ants ingested the poison or are they just carrying it when the cat eats these ants? If either of the two check out, then you should take your cat into your local vet immediately.

Here are some tips on how to keep your ants out of your house and your cat not to get sick on what you spray/put out. Put some Cinnamon where the ants are, and your cat probably will not like the cinnamon. If he tends to eat or lick it then put your cat in a room for awhile and also pay attention to him so he dosnt feel uncomfortable. GOOD LUCK! =)

Just as long as the cat doesn't directly eat the pesticide, he should be okay. But for safety's sake, you may want to close the door to your kitchen for now. If your kitchen has no door, consider putting the cat in another part of the house that is closed off from the kitchen for the time being, until the pest problem has been solved.

Better to be safe than sorry, take the cat to the vet and ask them, they may want to look the cat over for kidney/liver trouble.
