your meant to say all that you have done which is classed as sin? But to be honest I would rather say it in my own prayer, surely God could hear me that way?

AH! confession, Stand up to the plate tell all that has been taking your joy, sleep and mainly your peace Clear your conscience of the things you have done that hurt others, the things that you have been wanting to get out of your life that is sin. Confess the unforgiveness, grudges and jalousie that you have against others. Confession is about surrendering, which brings refreshing and renewal of the soul and heart. Than you have the energy to go and make it right with yourself and others can you feel the joy already.
OH! one more thing you can confess to your all mighty God in a closet or in your room or where ever is best for you. Its just the same.

Do not confess your sins to the Priest if you did not commit sin against him. The priest could not forgive your sins from other persons.
If you committed sin against Peter confess and ask forgiveness to Peter, then ask forgiveness of your sins direct to God b because God alone could forgive sins and nobody else.
The doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church regarding the confessing of sins and asking forgiveness to the priest whom they believe could forgive their sins, is not true and not biblical..
The Priest is like what you are as human being. Your difference only is on the education which each of you have obtained.. The priest studied priesthood while you studied a formal education from school of learning.
According to the Bible, the priest could not bless you and forgive your sins.

The Sacrament of Penance is such a gift! It can be very hard to do -- it can be intimidating, embarrassing -- but once absolution is given, you will walk out of that confessional feeling like a trillion bucks. Christ, in His most Holy Wisdom, gave us this precious Sacrament to literally and truly bestow His grace upon us through His priests as a means of forgiving us and assuring us of His mercy and love for us.
As G.K. Chesterton wrote:
When a Catholic comes from confession, he does truly, by definition, step out into that dawn of his own beginning... in that brief ritual God has really remade him in His own image. He may be grey and gouty; but he is only five minutes old.
I will not divulge what I have confessed but will tell you what is necessary to confess: To assure that the sacrament is valid you MUST confess all your sins that abrade your conscience...if you forget; that's fine, but to purposely omit makes your time in the confession a waste. So...just do it!
grave matter: does it involve breaking one of the 10 Commandments, committing one of the 4 sins that cry out to heaven, or failing to uphold precepts of the Church?
full knowledge: did you know or should you have known that the act was sinful?
deliberate consent: was your consent to this act sufficiently deliberate so as to be a choice? Were conditions present that influenced your ability to choose?

When I was young I told him everything and stopped going to church at about 12. Towards the end I pretty much pleaded the fifth amendment. Years later I came back to the church (briefly) and had to do the confession and after telling the priest about leaving the church and coming back I was expecting some chastizing but he said welcome back and other stuff and then... i was thinking it was his fault i left because he was admitting imperfections in the church.

I think only the Catholics have this confession situation. I admire the Catholic schools but other than that I am glad that I was not born nor raised Catholic. Too much stuff going on there that seems unnecessary. I do emphasize with you because I am familulre with your stuff.
