Pound for pound. A Pittbull, they are used for weight pulling contests. Other breeds are used but most of the time it is some sort of pitt mix that wins.

There are dog weight pulling contests, usually attended by breeds like American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Rottweilers, and Malamutes. Years ago, I remember a Rottweiler held the world record. More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weight_pulling
Not sure what you mean by best 'keeper' dog? All of these breeds are not easy for an inexperienced or first time owner. They need to work, and need firm, fair & consistent training & rules. Not breeds you can have to just 'hang around the house' like an average dog.

St. Bernards are very strong. They are used in Europe to rescue and drag people from avalanches, which requires a lot of strength.
As for the best keeper. There are many that could do that job. Dobermans, Rottweilers, and German Shepherds have been the most used for this, but there are many other too.

Without a doubt---the English Mastiff.
These dogs weigh almost as much as St. Bernards and are almost as tall as Great Danes which makes them the largest "all-around" dog. There is not an ounce of fat on them. They are pure muscle. They are loyal and protective, gentle and non-aggressive. (They sit on intruders instead of biting them!)
However, they would never win in a pulling contest as it would be near impossible to get them to move. LOL!
