The only true God is the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three distinct persons in one divine being (the Holy Trinity).

The Father has begotten the Son from eternity; the Son is begotten of the Father from eternity; the Holy Spirit from eternity proceeds from the Father and the Son.

To the Father especially is ascribed the work of creation;

To the Son, the work of redemption;

To the Holy Spirit, the work of santification. Here are a few passages to help to explain. Psalms 2:7, John 15:26, Galatians 4:6.

Martin Luther's Small Catechism explains it like this Father, Son, Holy Spirit; these in accordance to the Apostle's creed.
The First article of the Apostle's creed
Creation. "I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

A. The first person of the Trinity is called the Father; God is the Father of my Lord Jesus Christ and my Father through faith in Christ.(see Matt.3:17,John 20:17,Gal.3:26)
B. He is also the Father of all people because he created them. Strictly speaking, there is only one human race, because all human beings are equally the children of Adam and Eve and are equally redeemed by Christ. (see Mal.2:10, Acts 17:26, 1 Cor.15:22, Eph.3:14-15)

The Second Article: Redemption
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
This article speaks of Jesus Christ - His person and His work. Jesus meaning "the Lord saves" is His personal name.(Matt.1:21,John4:42,Acts4:12) Christ (which is Greek) or Messiah (Hebrew) means "the Annointed." Jesus was annoited by the Holy Spirit without limit to be our Prophet, Priest, and King.
(Ps.45:7, John3:34, Acts10:38).

The two Natures of Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is "true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary."

True God being explained in scripture clearly calling Him God, teaching the following:
A. Jesus has divine names. Notee that these names are not mere honorary titles but tell exactly who Jesus is, and they can be true only of God. (see John 20:28,
Rom. 9:5, 1 John 5:20.)
B. Jesus possesses divine attributes. He is; 1. eternal (without beginning and without end) John 1:1-2.
2. unchangeable; Heb.13:8.
3. almighty (omnipotent) Matt.28:18
4. all-knowing (omniscent);John 21:17
5. present everywhere (omnipresent) Matt.28:20, some other Bible narratives to take note of Luke 5:4-6, John 21:6(the miraculous catch of fish. John 1:48 (Jesus knows the name and character of Nathanael) John 4:17-18 (Jesus and the woman at Jacob's well) also Matt.21:1-7,26:20-25; Luke 18:31-33,22:8-13.

C. Jesus does divine works (which only God can do).
1.He forgives
2.He created
3.He will judge
4.He preserves

D. Jesus receives divine honor and glory
John 5:22-23; Heb. 1:6

Jesus was also true man because the scriptures;
A. clearly call Him man. 1Tim 2:5
B. say that He has a human body and soul;
Luke 24:39, Matt 26:38
C. speak of His human, but sinless, feelings and actions. Matt 4:2;John11:35;John 19:28;Heb 4:14-16

So we learn the the two natures that united in one person of Jesus Christ are: The divine and the human natures. This pesonal union began when He became man (incarnation) and continues forever. And the basis of our faith and life in Christ is: "He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity." (ref. Col 3:1-3).

Bare with me almost done.

The third article : Sanctification
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Holy Trinity, true God with the Father and the Son - therefore not merely the power or energy of God. (Matt.28:19)
We know that the Holy Spirit is God because scripture clearly calls him God.
(Acts 5:3-4, 1 Cor 3:16,Ps 139:7-10;1 Cor 2:10, Heb 9-14, Gen 1:2, Titus 3:5, 1Peter 4:14).

I realize that was probably TMI or more than you really wanted to know but that describes the God the Triune. The three parts and each distinction. I hope you take a look at the Bible passages for verification as testimony to what was listed here and feel free to correct me on anything you find out of text.

Three symbolizes pyramid power, which is a real force at work. My fantastic brain figured it out, but some people need you to paint a picture, being predominantly right-brained and all that!
GOD, is really in the Center of it all! Draw a circle with a dot in the middle. If Power flows from the Center toward the outside of the circle, doesn't it take on the triangular, pyramid shape?
EUREKA, I'VE FOUND IT!
For the more politically correct minded, I put the Trinity this way. The Holy Spirt is the Feminine aspect of the Lifeforce that comes from God. And the Christforce is the masculine aspect taking us back to God. God was mostly referred to in the masculine due to the patriarhcal authority in past times. There have also been matriarchal societies,
so don't get your undies in a knot!
But calling God the Father was just the accepted term. However, God is not male or female, but Complete. In Perfect balance between the masculine and feminine.
OKAY?
