Most long-term golf addicts dream of being able to play or practice all day and every day. At 63, I am retired and "living my dream" but find my skill level fluctuates daily. No amount of lessons or practice brings me the consistancy I desire - in fact, a practice period on the range is sometimes followed by my worst score of the week! My 10 handicap is the same now as it was when I was working full time and playing only one round a week!
Do you find there is an optimum number of rounds per week that gives you your best results?
How would you share your time between practice and playing if were approaching a major competition?

It sounds like practice didnt make it perfect, it made it permanent, its perfect practice your after, and then perfect playing and we all would be happy. An australian physio might say from afar, it may be your body that needs to change if you want to play of scratch, but 10 is fun. Your swing is probably totally grooved so more than 2 and less than 6 rounds a week, there are other things in life too. enjoy!

I am also retired, and find that you can play to much golf, you get rusty and tired, you tend to build into your game all sorts of silly errors. If i am playing a big comp,i tend to not play for 2 days before, not always possible. If you are not used to playing a lot of golf in midweek then this is your problem.

I think playing 3 times and practice twice a week would be great. You can go to www.playgolfamerica.com and find some great articles on how to get the most out of your practice sessions
