That's a really good question. A lot of people ask, only to be confronted by bible-thumping theists with forked tongues.

As a forward, I must let you know that I do believe that Jesus Christ came to earth as the son of God and died for my sins, being crucified on a cross and ascended after being dead for three days. However, I am very open-minded, and I try not to judge people. People deserve to be treated as people; they don't deserved to be called condemned, or saints.

A lot of people are searching for something bigger than themselves. They are hoping that there is more to life than just being born, experiencing life as long as humanly possible, then dying. Maybe they are not satisfied with answers they have been given in school, and think that there had to be an intelligent omnipotent being (whomever that being may be) who created the world we see around us. A lot of people believe the same things their parents believed in (either that God does or does not exist); some of those "cradle believers" stay with their faith after becoming adults, and some lose their faith.

Many people take a look at the Bible, The Qua'ran (sp?), Book of Mormon, or other holy book searching for the answers to their questions. If you read a holy book with an open mind, you can learn a lot. Whether you believe what it teaches is up to you. I encourage you to take a look at the Bible, or even other holy books. Go into it with an open mind, read the words in their context, and decide for yourself if gives you solid answers.

One word of caution: look for a Bible (or other holy book) that displays subjects so you don't have to read cover-to-cover or randomly the first time you look at it. Websites such as Bible Gateway (listed in the source section) can help guide you.

I hope I was able to answer some of your questions. I understand that "organized religion" is a very complex entity that seems to have a log of vague answers to non-believers' questions. There are a lot of fanatics out there (known sometimes as fundamentalists...or "fundies") that give organized religion a bad name, but there are a lot of sincere believers out there.

How did Jesus Die? He allowed himself to be crucified on a tree in order to sacrifice himself that you would be able to find Him and Heaven.

There are over 100 old testament prophecies that were filled when Jesus was alive. After His death, He was raised from the dead? Why, because he filled the prophecies.

What does this mean? Jesus said that He was the only way to Heaven. The Bible states that all you have to do is believe that Jesus:

Rom 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus {as} Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

Rom 10:10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

Rom 10:11 For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED."

Rom 10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same {Lord} is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him;

Rom 10:13 for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."

How Do I Know Jesus Is Alive? Because I have asked him to come and live inside of me. I see what He has done for me and I know that He will do it for you too. I am the least worthy of His sacrifice.

All you have to do is ask. It is not a "religious" thing, but a "relationship".
