I've seen this too many times to count. One of the biggest county hospitals in LA, Martin Luther King Hospital, is struggling to survive and has severely cut services due to inability to carry the cost of all of the non paying patients. While it would be tragic to evict illegal immigrants from the hospital in this article, note that the alternative being discussed is for the hospital to stop ALL long term care for citizens and legal residents as well, because they just can't carry the cost.

I truly do believe that in this situation our citizens have to come first. The home countries of these patients should be shamed into giving them care.

We don't have 'extra' for 12 to 20 million more people.

What do you think?

I don't know what to think about the doctor in the article, but I note that the 'egregious' quote he is said to have said is apparently 2d hand, and I wonder whether it is accurate.

vegaswoman, I suspect they will be relocated, as will the citizens and legal residents, to shabbier places that still give the bare bones of what they 'need'. However, I think this shows why the problem seriously needs to stop. The bill in the house would make it worse.

It is a very sad situation. I do think that the physician in the article came across a very callous and uncaring individual. Might be time for him to get out of medicine altogether.
*edit* I have no idea what the solution might be but I doubt that the families of these people in their home countries would have the resources to give these patients the care they require.
*edit* I agree that is probably what will happen.

I haven't read the article posted but can understand the gist of the story. Its so unfortunate that this is happening to people who pay the taxes and go by the rules. Don't you think that the responsibility is more on legals who hire them and make them live here? While 10 legal US workers are losing money and work because of this practice, there are 1 or 2 US employers who are one among us is making money and getting richer every day. If every one who hires illegals stop hiring and legals start working on all odd & dirty jobs the problem will solve by itself. We don't live in a perfect world. Do we? This doesn't mean that I support people who jump across the line. I am just saying that the problem should be addressed from as many angles possible.

I have been saying for years that we need to do a Constitutional amendment. We the People need to demand that a amendment to the Constitution states that if your here illegal, You or a born child on our soil can not become a citizen, you can receive no health care, media cal supplies, welfare, or any other item that comes free to U.S. citizens, as well as stating that Illegals have no rights under the Constitution as to legal counsel, trail to stay here, or anything that can delay them in our country, just that they will be deported asap, to the far-est point in their own country, also in this amendment it will punish employers for hiring with harsh fines, putting owners and CEOs in jail for years requiring them to pay the lost taxes on illegals, lost SS, lost medical collected, lost school fees for teachers, etc., just keep piling on the fees and punishment.
If there are no jobs why would an illegal come here? If there are no jobs, free things for them to steal, no gift citizenship, no schools, no medical then they would go home.
We let in some 1 million legal aliens a year that take years to apply and come, why should We the People just give criminals (illegals) citizenship or any other thing we paid for all our life?

The way to solve the health care crisis in the US is to deport all illegal aliens. They use up tens of billions of dollars every year in social services. They should not be eligible for anything but "real emergency care", not for treatment of the common cold or a headache! We need to end the practice of "anchor babies" by denying citizenship to the children of illegal aliens the are born in the US.

We must stop the Kennedy/Bush/mcCain amnesty bill that is now in the US Senate. Contact your reps and demand "NO AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS!"

A friend of mine broke a leg in Mexico while on vacation. Brought to the hospital they started working on her while she was questioned about insurance. When she said she didn't have health insurance everyone stopped working and jumped back. They wouldn't work on her for hours, not even pain meds, until money was wired from her parents. And we give these people open heart surgery without question and without charge.

research The Latino Paradox on the internet
(if you dont believe the following) ; )

contrary to popular belief illegal immigrants use public health care dramaticaly less than residents,

1. latinos (specificaly mexicans) have stronger immune systems and are less likely to require health services, or contract diseases, than ANY other racial group!!
dont believe me? then look it up, unless your too scared to have your white superiority complex challanged, look it up, if you have the b@!!s

2. for fear of exposure, ask any doctor and see how hard it is to keep the ones that do come to keep coming for further treatment or try to convince those that need to but dont go

3. are less likely to be affected by enviorment, fatigue, or mental stress

this information is based soley on stats, math, numbers, unlike the majority of opinion based on emotion respond to me in a LOGICAl MATHEMATICAL manner only i have no respect for emotional arguments, only scientific
