Is it anything like a huge, raised purple bruise over the kidney area?

Nope

A hernia usually looks like a lump.

This is because, for all intents and purposes, it is a lump.

A hernia is formed usually in the front part of the abdominal wall - either in the middle near the belly button (umbilicus) [umbilical hernia] or in the groin [inguinal or femoral hernias]

Have a look at the pages below

What you are describing is a bruise over the kidney area. This is most often due to direct trauma (a hard knock) to the area.

You'd probably do well to go and see a doctor about it.

Nope, first problem you don't get hernia's in that area at all.It sounds more like a huge, raised purple bruise ! If you have had significant trauma to the kidney area best to get it checked out in case the underlying kidney has been damaged.

Inguinal hernia could be an inherited concern. is this breeder a to blame breeder who shows/works his canines and does each and all of the main appropriate OFA & CERF sorting out? If not, then i'd desire to run away as rapid as a danger. If this breeder *is* a to blame breeder, then i'd desire to communicate with them approximately recurrance expenditures in this truly breed of canines.

I herniation is a "Bulge".
An area that has become bulged out due to the skin surrounding it becomming too thin.
Herniations can be almost anywhere in the body.
