My friend and I were just talking about this at work. It's really hard to buy healthy foods and maintain a strict budget. We're both trying to eat healthier and it's a little disheartening. It's ridiculous to have to pay 8bucks for one pack boneless skinless chicken breasts. I do plan on going up to the local farmer's market to get a bunch of veggies and freeze them. That will at least help me save a little money!

If you mean because organic food is higher priced than "regular", yes I think it's outrageous. But I can also understand that organic farming is a lot more work, and organic farms are fewer in number, and the demand for organic produce is high, so naturally, prices would go up. So, while I understand it, I still don't like it.
If you mean because Tofu costs more than Top Ramen, you can actually eat nutritious foods pretty cheap compared to "regular" diets........ Red beans & brown rice are way cheaper than filet mignon and lobster. Depends on how you mean the question.

Not really. I went with free range grass fed meats and dairy without the hormones and antibiotics. Also switched to organic vegetables and fruit. I've eliminated the junk food and drink. I have saved on that let alone eating smaller portions as my hunger is more satisfied. It takes some planning but well worth it.

I asked this question before to myself, but if you balance out your healthy food costs with the value you put on not just longevity, but a pain-free and disease free life, it's worth it.
Each time you eat a junk, oil filled, non-nutritious food, the cost to your health & longevity is far greater than the few dollars you might have spent on eating it.

you get what you pay for, sometimes that's quality, and sometimes just preparation. If you're willing to cook it doesn't have to be more expensive to eat a healthful diet. But of course can be depending on your taste, fruits out of season and not native to your area will always cost more.

yea, it sucks but it's been that way for quite a while. vegetables haven't really been "cheap" since the late 80's.
buy grains, beans, nuts, seeds, etc. in bulk (from Whole Foods, etc.). for veggies I try to buy frozen in bulk for cooking (soups, etc.) and save the fresh for salads. buying from the local produce markets can save money, and local growers are less likely to use as many chemicals, etc. than the big high yield farms. for protein buying whole chickens, turkeys saves some cash. same goes for frozen fish fillets and seafood. sometimes I buy ostrich or bison meat in bulk.

Yes. If you eat basics like oatmeal or oat bran and cut out meat, you make up the difference buying cruelty-free, soy and organic, so it costs the same.

I agree. If you're gonna eat vegetables, yogurt and other dietetic stuff it's gonna cost you more than eating the high-calorie burgers. If you have the posibility, I recommend you to plan your own tomatoes, salad and some other easy to take care of plants. I do it myself and it costs me almost nothing.

It is very upsetting. It is like the world wants us to eat bad so we can die off faster.
