Because everytime the media here a computer term the use it incorrectly.

Surfing the web (not the net) referred to the process of just following links to see what you could find. This was in the days when most sites contained many links to other sites.

Basically, going where the wave takes you.

The media morons took this word and began to use the word to describe searching the web. They confused web and net.
