It appears to be a wound from him scratching himself

Using OTC medication made for humans on your cat is never a good idea.
It's very possible that there could be something in it that is toxic to the cat.

Wipe the wound with soap and warm water, if it appears to be infected then take kitty to the Vet to get medication made especially for a cat.

Depends what the cause is. If it's just an abrasion, then yes antiseptic would do. If it's the beginnings of an abscess then it's too late for antiseptic, it needs antibiotics. You'll know if it's an abscess because it will get worse and eventually burst - go to a vet before it goes this far though! Could also be the start of flea allergy symptoms. Is he regularly flea treated - with stuff from a vets? Could be many things really - you can put neosporin on it, but go to a vet if it gets worse. Always clean with cooled boiled salt water on cotton wool first - no point applying antiseptic if the area isn't clean. Chalice EDIT: Neosporin is just an antiseptic. Shouldn't hurt him even if he licks it - but if he does lick it off, don't put more on. Try not to let him lick it because that won't help.

Yes! You can use neosporin...also you can clean it with a little water and dish detergent. The cat may lick at it, but in small amounts it's not going to hurt him. Keep a close eye on it and watch for infection (redness, swelling or discharge). If you see any of this, be sure to take him to the Vet ASAP. Good luck and tell your kitty to stop scratching himself :)

I would not use most preparations designed for humans on a cat. You might try putting a little vitamin E on the sore - licking that off will not harm your cat and it will help in the healing. You may also want to check with your vet on the cause of the sore.

No you cannot use it on a cat,dog yes. Cats lick themselves. I would just keep applying Listerine. It was invented to put on wounds to stop infections. We gargle with it so it would be fine.

Yep, cat sores and human sores are both simply cuts in the skin.

Call and ask your vet (or any local vet or animal shelter). They'll tell you. I think it would be okay, but I'm not a vet, so make sure before you do.

Yes you can, but the problem will be to get him to not lick it. I don't think it will hurt him. Try to put a gause wrap over it if he will let you.
Good Luck.
