it has probably been stung by some sort of bee our collie cross developed one after he caught a bee some time back. it just how their tongues repair. it is very common in most types of dogs as well so i would not overly worry unless it changes appearance as we had a dog who developed mouth cancer on the roof of his mouth and that originally was a black patch that changed but he had an op and lived to be sixteen.

Yeah, don't worry its normal. Its just dark pigment on her tongue. Like some dogs have black and white noses, but just on her tongue ! I have a black lab and she has a black patch in mouth, with pink patches round it so don't worry, it is perfectly normal!

First of all, it is very common. A lot of dogs have that. My dog has that on the roof of her mouth. And my dog is most definitely a mutt. (mix breed) It does not mean your dog is a purebred, that is rediculous. And I don't think it means your dog has any particular breed in it's blood line, either. I think ALOT of different breeds have black tongues or black on their tongues, or elsewhere in their mouths. There is also an old wives tale that says if they have black tongues, or black on their tongues, then that means they are smart-well yes, I'm sure they are, but dogs with pink tongues aren't necessarily dumb. :-)

Also chow chow dogs have black patches on their tongue. Its a sign of a chow dog. Are you sure it doesn't have ANY (even a little bit) chow chow in it?

I think your dog has suffered a puncture and it has been repaired with a bike patch. That is what the patch is.
