hi , what i know is that margarine is made of vegetable oils so it has no cholesterol therefore is better than butter for our health but i once got an email in HTML which said that butter is better than margarine because if u take two bowls and keep margarine in one bowl and butter in the second bowl , later u will notice that the flies didn't eat the margarine but ate the butter and this proves that even flies find butter better than margarine because they care for their health... thanks

Unlike butter, margarine is available in modified calorie, low calorie and low fat versions. So definitely margarine.
And at this point, I don't think even 1 in 10 people could taste one alongside the other and tell the difference. As a culture, we're used to the lower priced spread.

Butter tastes better. It is Natural. Margarine is more chemicals. Some say that your body will flush away butter better than margarine.

Well butter is natural and it gives a really nice taste when added to cakes and stuff, while margarine is not natural.
and obviously natural things are better for your health

butter is-it has natural fat, is made of a naturally occurring material (milk) and has a nifty taste. margerine more often than not contains a transfat. recent information leads dieticians to believe transfats have an effect on cholesterol levels in the body and contributes to obesity. there is a difference in flavour. as far as recipes go, often they call for one ingredient to achieve a certain taste or consistency. good alternatives to both, if the butter or margerine is primarily for fat, is to use canola oil or another oil with a subtle or mild taste to it.
