Suggesting a product in addition to the one the customer is interested in. ie: they choose a cel phone to buy. You try to upsell by saying: do you need a charger for that. Another ie: they order a hamburger. You say: do you want fries with that? You'd be upselling.

Selling more than what the customer is buying. Suggest another author of a book or another title in the same category. Person wants to buy an economy car and you suggest a medium size because of the size of his family. Anything more than what the customer has, you suggest, and they purchase is upselling. meaning if your selling 5 a day now you need to up-sell to 10-15 a day.
