How should I give this girl a gift?

Question

I live opposite a university union, where a nice girl works....we've noticed each other, since late 2005.
It's difficult to come up with excuses to talk to her though. She was waiting for me to be more friendly to her....then she gave up.....but recently her boss told her not to charge my family "as they're VIPs", which doubtless sparked her interest again. She gets a bit nervous when talking to me now, which I interpret as a good sign! A couple of days ago, she spilled her cup of tea all over her reception desk, when I made a routine enquiry...which she mopped up with her tights....which she had taken off (she was using the gym beforehand I think). I said I'd buy her a new pair, which she smiled at but probably didn't take all that seriously. She used a pretty cheap pair, and I've just gone out and bought the most expensive pair in the city (£20, or US$35).

How should I give them to her, and what should I say?

Slightly creepy. Take the tights back to the tights store and get your money back. Take the money and buy her flowers instead. Nice flowers, like roses or something. Go to a florist. Bring them to her and tell her you couldn't find tights, and the flowers will have to do, and then ask her to dinner. Worst thing that can happen is she'll say no, and then you won't have to waste time worrying about it anymore. Yay sensibility!

Wrap them in pink tissue paper and put them in a nice box or gift bag. It's a really lovely thought but I doubt she'll know that they're the most expensive pair of tights and she won't be impressed if you've gotten her size wrong. I'd put a little note in too, telling her how you fee. It's a bit of a strange gift to give a girl so maybe you should get her something along with that... either to carry on the joke you could get her a really pretty dish cloth or a cute apron or you could get her something more romantic (which I would suggest). Ideas for this could be a really pretty simple silver bracelet or some nice simple silver earrings (that would really step things up a notch and she'll have to talk to you and she'll know that you're really interested) or you could go with something more simple like some cute socks, chocolates, a mini manicure set (available from boots). I really wouldn't give the tights by themselves mate, women are sensitive about this kind of stuff. You could also, in the card say you'd like to take her for dinner... Would recommend that you wrap them beautifully but also purchase a really pretty handkerchief - something with either embroidery or lace - and wrap that too. On the tights you should put a tag that says something like " Hopefully a suitable replacement" and on the hankie's tag you should write "For the next time you throw tea everywhere - allow me to buy you another cup!" and then put your phone number at the bottom - if she is interested then she will call at least to say thanks.

Um, no offence, but buying a girl you barely know hosiery is creepy in the extreme!
Don't give them to her, for the love of God!! Instead, take them back, get a refund and buy her some flowers. Then ask her out.
Trust me, if you give her a pair of tights as a gift she will think you are a knicker sniffer.

i dont think this would be the best opening gambit ever made to try and win a fair maidens hand. take them back and get a nice bunch of flowers delivered to her at work asking for a date or a nice box of sweets.
any girl who would accept a pair of tights of a guy she barely knows might just be a bit of a nutter.

um dont give her the tights and get to know her more has a friend than make yor move ( make sure you ask if it was because of you that she split her tea )cause you must know ,you have the most lovely place to take soemone to dinner were they wont have to worry about spliing tea, only sipping a fine wine and if she did spill it because she likes like you look her in the eye and say tut tut are you busy tonight or should we wait my love until the weekend .. then give her the tights on a date... yeah that sshould do it

Stop being shy. If she smiled at you then that's a good sign. Just wrap up the nylons and bring them to her. Just tell her that you wanted to do the honor of replacing them because that day her smile just lit up the room. This is your way of thanking her for making your day sunny.

You should wrap them up nice and leave them on her desk signed: "Your Secret Admirer". This way, when she finally figures out you are the admirer, and it won't take her long, she'll know you are truly interested in her and the relationship's foundation is set.
