I borrowed an 8gigabyte DVDRom from a friend and could not find blank DVDs of the same capacity to copy it. I have but 4gigabyte blank DVDs. So, how can I split the contents of the 8gb into 2 blank DVDRoms of 4gb each? Is there a software for that and how can I get it?

You shouldn't need to. Most DVDs actually are larger than the DVD-R capacity you find for home use. Usually when you are ready to convert it, the file size will be reduced.

You could also use a double-layer DVD to record, which would give you plenty of space.

To split the movie, you would need to convert it to a compressed file format such as AVI or MPEG preferrably, then use movie-editing software to split the file and re-encode each segment to DVD.
