what happens to the umbilical cord after you give birth ? does part of it stay inside the uterus ? How long does it take to come out by itself ?

It is atached to the placenta. That comes out straight after the baby is born. If anything is left inside your womb after the birth you will be in all sorts of trouble.

After the cord is cut from the baby and after the remaining cord (still attached to the placenta inside the woman) blood stops pulsing the doctor usually gives a tug on the cord as the woman pushes (as if she is giving birth again) and then it is all done and over with.

The cord attatches your baby to the placenta. After the baby has been born the cord is cut. After a little while You begin contracting again and deliver the placenta with the cord!

the umbilical cord is attached to the placenta. after the baby is delivered the women will push out the placenta.

it's attached to the placenta and has to be pushed out or removed. it usually comes out 15-20 minutes after the baby is born it is also known as after-birth

Everything comes out at delivery time. You should not have nothing left inside you or else you need to go back to your doc.
