A snail can sleep 3-4 years at a time! In fact even regular snails can stretch their sleep to a week. Snails hibernate too. We are lucky to actually see a snail that moves! No matter how SLOWLY!

How Long Do Snails Sleep

2017-01-02 07:45:06 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Some snails hibernate during the winter (typically October through April in the Northern Hemisphere). They may also estivate in the summer in drought conditions. To stay moist during hibernation, a snail seals its shell opening with a dry layer of mucus called an epiphragm. Some apple snails have a "door" to close the shell when they withdraw, for protection from predators as well as to avoid dessication.

Snails hibernate in the winter. This means they go to sleep while the weather is very cold. Snails bury themselves and close up the entrance to their shell with a door of slime. This hardens into a tough skin. This tough skin keeps predators out buy a tiny hole allows air in. Some snails that live in the desert have been known to remain in their shells for two or three years.
