The word comes from the Greek "holos" which means completely and "kaustos" which means a burned sacraficial offering - the two combining to mean something like completely burnt, reflecting how Hitler incinerated the corpses of those he killed in the final solution, and metaphorically burnt the races of the 'untermensch'.

2.-the other definitions is "a Sacrifice" if you read the bible mentions how old and young people would praise God with their honorings by a holocaust of a young and healthy animal...
