would you rather be called a "Christian" or a "believer in Jesus Christ"????
I personally do not like being referred to as a "Christian".

Someone asks , why am I not filth?? I would never put myself in the same category as the preachers that you see on TV , this Sunday morning. Also, look at all the scandals, month after month, of so called religious people. Maybe it's just me, but I would never dream of doing some of the things that some of the so called Christians do.

It's easy to see that the public face of the name "Christian" has been badly tarnished by the TV evangelists, many politicans, etc. It's true that highly visible hypocrites have embarrassed me over and over.
But I'm not sure it's any different than it has always been. Before TV brought them into our homes, I suppose there were enough local scandals and small town hypocrites to give us a black eye, too.
There always have been and always will be a lot of hangers-on, who make a buck or win an election by invoking the name of Jesus Christ. They will be dealt with in their time.
Matthew 7:21-23: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

We all know not everyone who claims to be a Christian is truly a Christian. The "filth" that you speak about are probably the most notorious among them who get much more attention than Christians going about the business of serving God "in spirit and truth" (John 4:23,24). Acts 11:26 says:and, after he found him, he brought him to Antioch. It thus came about that for a whole year they gathered together with them in the congregation and taught quite a crowd, and it was first in Antioch that the disciples were by divine providence called Christians.(NWT) Since followers of Christ were called Christian "by divine providence", I feel privileged to be known as a Christian. Those who bring reproach by carrying that name while failing to even try to live up to it, will be judged by God. Meanwhile, it behooves true Christians to separate themselves from these. (2Corinthians 6:16-17)

Friend, True Christians will not do thing that your TV preachers do, At least I don't & I know many others that will not, You phrased the outcome very clear, as So called Christians, SO CALLED CHRISTIANS, is also known as make-believers.

I do not see the difference. The filth you refer to has been construed by the less than honorable. I would not cow tow to that segment of the population. You must recognize evil for what it is and not worry about semantics

And you are not filth how?
Edit:
Yes it seems to me that there are way too many examples when Christians deny other Christians the use of the title because they do not agree with their actions. Who is to referee?

being Christian means being a follower of Jesus Christ. unfortunatly many who claim to be christian do not know Christ but follow man made religion. which is what Jesus came to condemn. as well as to pay thr price for our sins.

I use the term "follower of the teachings of Jesus".
Remember brother Jesus ask us not to judge, and to love our neighbor.
Christians are these neighbors Jesus was talking about too. We need to love them too just like Jesus ask.
love and blessings Don

Christ in me, is what Christian is suppose to mean. It has been over used, and even people that really don't know what a Christian is claim to be. I really don't care what they call me. I know who I am and who is my Savior.

If you, in any way, identify yourself with Christ, you really need to look at what you're saying. JUDGE NOT lest ye be judged!! Wow! I think you have some issues you need to take to God. As for your question itself, I only care how Jehovah sees me, and I have His promise that when He sees me, it's in the glorious light of His Son.
