i agree, your supervisor is a @#%@. there is a slight chance that this is a violation of some company policy. check with your human resources department to verify. if you feel as though you are being singled out for harassment because of your ethnicity, document this and any other subsequent occurrences and file a complaint with your state E.E.O.C. regardless of some peoples personal opinions/bias, THIS IS STILL AMERICA. living in America means you are free to speak any language you choose. it is also important to remember that there is a vast difference between rules/policy and laws. i hope this helps, if i can assist you further please feel free to e-mail me. good luck.

I doubt it's illegal - but you should speak English where appropriate or dictated by company policy. If your supervisor has said "no Spanish unless with a customer", that's what you deal with. Rules are rules - if it bothers you there's always the classifieds!

There is currently no law in New Jersey, but, there may be in your company. Want to work or speak Spanish? If you chose the latter, what the hell did you move to NJ for? If you lived in Mexico for example, you would probably go to jail for the same thing. Oh wait, in NJ you are guaranteed certain rights. Learn English and worry about more important things, like getting that green card.

This is an English speaking country! And I must tell you that it bothers me greatly when I am in a place of business and employees are speaking another language. It is not terribly professional! However, I love the fact that you speak more than English!
