What happened to our midfield on Saturday?

Ferguson was annonymous apart from getting himself booked, Hartley wasn't at the races, McCulloch isn't international class yet. Is it time to give the Hibs boys a chance on Wednesday.

As long as Darren Fletcher doesn't come back into the side......

I hope we don't play that bad on Wednesday, we'll be well and truly hammered if we do. I think we need a 5 man midfield as it appears the only way Ferguson can fit in with others bailing him out. I think he is the most overrated footballer in Scotland.
And as for McLeish? The jury is still out...He had a lucky break yesterday let's hope the boys play better next time.
On the plus side our midfield went AWOL but we still won the game and top our group, whereas a load of over hyped 'superstars' were held to a draw by Israel

I think you're being to harsh on Carrick, he does his job well, he just needs a world class midfielder to play along side him and Cleverly nor Anderson are good enough. Carrick has a job to hold deep and dictate the play and he does it very well, but his teammates have the responsibility to create and control the play, like a young Paul Scholes would do. I'd say you need at least 2 top top quality CM's. Evans, I like a lot. I think he'll develop into a top class CB, just not at the moment. Welbeck, yes I agree about him, he does seem to just run and run and run without doing actually too much for the team in terms of scoring or creating. Young has been a major flop, due to injuries mainly, Valencia has become quite predictable too. To be honest Rooney, Hernandez and Van Persie seem to be single handedly doing most of the for United this season, maybe the odd contributions from Evra, Cleverly and Giggs. Although you still have a winning mentality that does seem to get United over the line more often than not and you cannot really put a price on that, even if there are players with more quality at Chelsea like Hazard, Mata and Oscar or City with Nasri, Silva and Toure..... that mentality is something that even the most average of Man United players have got going for them. I'd say 1 world class defender, 2 world class midfielders and a world class winger away from being where you were back in the 2007-08 and 2008-09.

The good news is we played bad and won so hopefully they will gee up on Wednesday. Fletcher has to come back into the team and he needs to put someone in front of the back 4 to protect them - McNamara? Hutton also needs to play instead of Alexander. The Italians are not over confident at the moment and we have to take heart from the Sellik result against Milan when nobody in European football gave them a chance. I will take 0-0 anyday of the week.

the midfield wasn't that bad anyway if some of the hibs players did play in the midfield then there would be a lack of experience, i would like to see brown, and thomson play for scotland but the experience is key against italy

Where indeed?? Drop Ferguson (shyte) and put some fresh talent on in midfield ,as they seem to be all over the place at the moment, but I agree withe kbw, If we play like that on weds,it could get humiliating, we need to get that fire back into the belly of Scottish football, and start to play for the pride of the Scottish nation,So come M'cleish lets see what you've got for the Italians, good luck to Scotland ,oh and by the way well done to N/Ireland for sat. what was the other score?? oh yes 0/0.(quiet snigger to myself).good luck anyway.

I cannot believe that some of the papers are making Ferguson, Scotlands star man. I never even noticed he was on the park for about half an hour!!

I think we were pretty jammy yesterday, but I will take a rub of the green against glorious defeat any day of the week. McLeish will probably go for damage limitation against Italy, but I would like to see us going a bit gung ho, we have nothing to lose. I'd rather see us give ourselves a chance of a goal and to do that it needs to be Miller AND Boyd again. Weir looked his age on Saturday and I agree about the midfield. However, just because they destroyed Killie last week, doesn't neccessarily make the Hibs boys world class! Italy are slightly tougher opposition than Jim Jeffries boys!!!

Cleland, we'd have to dim the lights cause i'd gag at the sight of yer big orange face!!!!

Isn't it sad that a genuine question about football gets less than half the answers of one from the muppet show people about cloning and someone not letting someone else play with their skipping rope!
