I'm going for the first one.. Everyone needs to be trained up before they go to war. i believe that my training is over, and its nearly time for me to wage war against principalities and powers of this world! But you need a very good grounding before you do this! God never said it would be easy, and i know it wont be, but im going to fight until the end!

I think it's a combination of both issues.
Each of us are gifted with different gifts, talents, intellect, and abilities. In most cases, when we serve God, he shows us, as the body of Christ, that we are the eyes, ears, hands, or an internal organ of the body of Christ. In other words, those gifts and talents can be used for him in a unique way.
As I pray and ask God to reveal his purpose to me, I find that God develops a burning desire on how to help others.
In my case, I know I have a passion to help adults overcome barriers to employment so that they can make a better life for themselves annd their families. As a result, I went back to school, and am almost finished with my degree. Using my Human Resource degree, I'm working in a management position where I can hire people at entry level employment. Because my company likes to promote good employees, I have the opportunity to help the employees work towards growth.
So, in my life, I learned what God's purpose was for me, and am obeying him by teaching and applying this purpose into my daily life. I build character if I walk in a way that shows God's love. And if I show God's love, I am being obedient to him.

The goal of every Christian is to live God's plan and purposes for his life. To do so he needs to build up his personal relationship with God by learning His word and learning to obey the Holy Spirit as His Teacher, Comforter, Counsellor and Empowerer. The end result is having Jesus living His life in and out every Christian's life to bless himself and others so that God is magnified and glorified thus bringing his kingdom on earth.

Well, that is a bit of a byproduct to me. After all, we are not to be judged by our works. On the flip side of that, James says that if we are led by the Holy Spirit, you would inevitably see the good works being done by the person almost automatically. This, I find, is where I am happiest. When I am consciously trying not to sin, am reading my Bible, going to church (NOT to make a showing or as an attendance record but to fellowship-truly fellowship-with other Christians and to worship the LORD, hear his word, and bask in His love), and praising the LORD, it all fits right into place. That is when I am able to-nearly automatically but still completely aware and enjoying the ride-do the will of God. It rocks! If any of you reading this have never given your heart to the Lord, it ROCKS!! There is nothing like it. I know...I don't think I quite matched Solomon, but I have tried ALMOST every vice and nothing comes close...NOTHING. God bless all of you.

Well, kinda both.
First of all, God takes our needs an wants into accout aswell, not just His. For example, if i want to move to a different country, i would pray to God and ask him if it is the right choice and ask him that if it is possible, to open doors for me so that i can.
Then, God gives me the chance to move there, cos i wanna. But then things happen there which makes me think that maybe it was God's idea in the first place for me to go there. That he made something happen in my life that gave me that idea and see if id wanna go. God isnt a controll freak, he gives us choices.
The second point is true just the way it is. God is part of my life, and part of me.

Yes and to tell others about Jesus. We were put on earth for him. Life is our gift from God, what we do with our life is our gift to HIM. There are a few judgemental Christians, but there are a lot more really nice people that love and care for people.

Both. By learning "...the teaching of God and apply[ing] it into [my] daily life and building character..." I pave the way for the Holy Spirit to work in me "...to do what God want[s] [me] to do and obey..." Him. "Study to show yourself approved a workman who need not be ashamed." "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night that thou mayest observe to do according all that is written therein. For then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good success."
