I'm basing this answer on Microsoft Word 2003 Professional Edition, so if you have a different version of Word, the answer may not be the same.

What you want to do, is to go into the Special Characters
Within Word:
Go to the place where you want to type the special character.
Click on INSERT at the top of the screen
Click on Symbol
Click on the SYMBOLS tab
At the top right of the information box that comes up, in the subset drop down menu, look for Latin Extended A
Then look on the screen until you find the character you are looking for (if that name is not found, just use the scroll bar to go through all of the characters).
After you have selected that character, hit INSERT and you will be returned to your document.

One thing to remember is that not every font will recognize the special characters. So, you may have to change the font of the document so you can use the special character.

Your computer should have a program called:

"Character Map"

If you call up this program, you can find the letter that you want, copy it, and paste it into your text. Make sure that you specify the type of text (e.g.; "Arial" or "Times New Roman")
