Ribs grilled with a bourbon sauce. Grilled pork tenderloin with a good herb rub or teriyaki sauce or grilled teriyaki chicken.
Grilled zucchini and roasted peppers with the best steak you can afford.
However, my favorite (esp. for a crowd) is bbq pulled pork, (you can prepare this in crockpots---recipezaar has many great recipes according to your exact taste and budget), served on gourmet (or fresh white or wheat) buns, with hots dogs or hamburgers offered as an alternative for kids and pork haters (grilled veggies offered as an alternative for vegans) and any of the following sides:
coleslaw or broccoli slaw, potato salad, cabbage or kale or collard greens; salted vine ripe tomatoes; macaroni tuna salad or an italian pasta salad--italian dressing & seasonings, esp salt and pepper, cubed mozzarella, salami or pepperoni, tri-color rotini, green pepper, tomatoes, black olives, a bit of olive oil;
possibly , depending on your tastes and the size of the crowd, crab salad or spinach and artichoke dip with raw veggies; grilled corn on the cob or fresh green beans. Garlic bread with basil or crusty, fresh italian or french bread. Also, have different sliced cheeses. Yummy and pleasing to all palates. Limit selections if your bbq is under 10 or 15 people. Have fruit, esp strawberries and melons, offered as dessert. Serve steak or shrimp or grilled salmon alongside the bbq pork sandwiches if you want it to be a more traditional and/or expensive bbq. But I guarantee that the pork will not be ignored over the other choices, esp if you use a savory sauce and slow cook the meat long enough.
Another CHEAP alternative (along with the pulled pork, which I think tastes fantastic, and it is not something most people eat every month, much less every year) is plain old bbq chicken. Use the freshest chicken you can get and a wonderful (homemade is best) bbq sauce. Serve with grilled corn on the cob and green salad and roasted baby red potatoes (cut, unpeeled, into quarters in tin foil packets....place on the grill, with butter, onions, salt and pepper, for 25-35 minutes or so (45 minutes tops depending on packet size)...until browned and tender, with crispy skins....we called these camp potatoes and everyone loved them.

Try doing a variety of different skewers or ke-bobs. You could have beef, chicken, shrimp, fish or veggie. Have lots of different dipping sauces to go along with them. One of my favorite BBQ treats is grilled pineapple. Mix brown sugar with coconut flavored rum until it is a syrup like consistency. Brush on slices of pineapple, and grill. It will be done when you see grill marks, 5-10 minutes. Serve warm. It tastes like a warm pina colada.

Here we go
Starters
Cabanoski (Sliced) on the BBQ
Jacket Potatoes in Foil with butter & garlic (BBQ)
Sliced Pineapple on BBQ
Corn Cobs (BBQ)
Salads
Big Green Salad (Lettuce,Capsicum,Snow Peas's,Avacado with olive oil, salt & balsamic vinegar)
Sliced Tomato's in Vinegar
Sliced cucumber & Onions in Sour Cream with cracked pepper
Mains
King Prawns in their shells with olive oil & garlic
Pork or Lamb Ribs with Ranch Sauce
Fish in Foil with lemon juice, garlic and season all salt
Heres a few of my favourites:-
Marinated Spicy Pork Chops
The marinade is prepared in minutes, and the meat can marinate in the refrigerator for up to 12 hours. For a quick and easy dinner, I prepare the marinade in the morning before work then throw them on the grill when I get home
Oozing Cheesy Bread
We, especially my 12 year old daughter, love these!
Make some bread dough, any recipe will do, but using interesting flours or herbs in it is nice.
Shape into egg sized balls.
Make a hole in the middle of each and stuff with a big cube of your favourite cheese (let everyone choose their own).
Seal the dough around the cheese.
Leave to rest in a warm place for a while.
To cook, just pop on the BBQ for a few minutes, turning frequently, until toasted and risen
Devilled Chicken BBQ Recipe
1/2 cup dry mustard
1/3 cup white wine
3 to 4 chicken breasts, skinned, boned, halved
peanut oil
soft bread crumbs
salt
pepper
Make a paste of mustard and wine. Let stand at least 10 minutes.
Flatten chicken breasts with a mallet or rolling pin dipped in water to keep it from sticking. Brush chicken lightly with oil. Season with salt and pepper.
Precook one minute on each side on gas grill.
Remove from grill and brush both sides generously with mustard paste. Dip in soft bread crumbs to coat. Sprinkle lightly with peanut oil. Grill until delicately brown.
Turn gently, sprinkle with oil and continue cooking until done.
