He also said that "the kingdom of heaven is within you" and that "you will know the truth and the truth will set you free". I wonder how many Christians claim to be free now?

He may not have said it in plain words, but what about this..

John 14:1-3: “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

PS. if were smack in the palm of our hands why did he have to go and prepare a place for us?

Then what place is Jesus talking about here?

John 14:3
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

You should try John 14. Jesus said, "I go to prepare a place for you and if I go and prepare a place for you I will come again and receive you to myself that where I am there you may be also." Do you see the phrase "I WILL COME again"?That sure sounds future to me.

John 14

Jesus actually talks more about hell. I think it is because He wanted us to know that hell is a real place and He does not want anyone to pick that choice. : )
