Acid reflux is when your stomach acid backs up into your esophogus causing that buring pain that many call heartburn. If it happens often and is not treated it can cause esophogeal erosion aka it eats/burns the lining of your esophogus.

The backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus. Acid reflux generally occurs because the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) relaxes allowing stomach juices back up into the esophagus. This is also called gastroesophageal reflux.

a disease that causes heartburn when acid from the stomach flows up into the throat. Acid reflux can trigger asthma and make it harder to treat.

Acid reflux is a muscular weakness disease, not an acid problem. However, since there are no standard treatments to address the problem directly, acid blocking medications are commonly used to treat the problem. In homeopathy, an agent is used that will address internalized anger and muscular weakness. If the lower esophageal sphincter ring is not too badly damaged or enlarged, then the homeopathic preparation should resolve the problem between 80-100%.

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD, or GORD when -oesophageal, the BE form, is substituted) is injury to the esophagus that develops from chronic exposure of the esophagus to acid coming up from the stomach (reflux). In contrast, heartburn is the symptom of acid in the esophagus, characterized by a burning discomfort behind the breastbone (sternum). ...

both me and my father have this, and it has been so much worse since i became pregnant.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease, commonly referred to as GERD, or acid reflux, is a condition in which the liquid content of the stomach regurgitates (backs up, or refluxes) into the esophagus. The liquid can inflame and damage the lining of the esophagus although this occurs in a minority of patients. The regurgitated liquid usually contains acid and pepsin that are produced by the stomach. (Pepsin is an enzyme that begins the digestion of proteins in the stomach.) The refluxed liquid also may contain bile that has backed-up into the stomach from the duodenum. (The duodenum is the first part of the small intestine that attaches to the stomach.) Acid is believed to be the most injurious component of the refluxed liquid. Pepsin and bile also may injure the esophagus, but their role in the production of esophageal inflammation and damage (esophagitis) is not as clear as the role of acid.

Acid Reflux is like heart burn, but constant. Your stomach acids begin to build because they don't shut off as often and, if not treated, burn the lining of your esphogus. It's a stomach disease that is, as far as i know, uncurable. You can take medicine to calm it a lil, but other than that.
