If you still have milk you will not be vegan- you will be vegetarian.
Unfortunately you cannot stop people from asking you why you are doing this- I have been vegetarian for 10 years and people still bug me about it. Just give them the honest answer I guess and if you get sick of doing that then tell them it is none of their business (if they are being unreasonable etc).
Vegans can eat chocolate- I know that my vegan friend found a vegan chocolate at the supermarket- not sure of the brand because I don't like chocolate- but I guess just check the labels until you find one.

If you are planning on going full fledge with a vegan lifestyle, you have to remember if you are giving up dairy products, you have to keep in mind that anything made with dairy products are included. So no, still drinking milk would not be consider a "fully" vegan diet, as well as chocolate. There are chocolate substitues using carob, which tastes good.
I commend you for joining a "more compassionate" community. I have adopted this lifestyle for almost 20 years, and today there are alot of meat/dairy alternatives that were not as convientent as it once was. One interesting fact you can tell the people who critize you about this is to let them know for every one person who does not eat meat is 100 animals that are saved in a year. Show someone a video on some of the disturbing things you yourself have watched, if that doesnt humble a person nothing will. Another important fact to remember to look into "animal friendly" household products, clothes including "fake" leather, which looks and feels like the real thing, etc.
Talk to your doctor regarding a multivitiam or any other suggestions he/she may have regarding this. When you are adopting this lifestyle dont put too much pressure on doing it in one day, there is nothing wrong with doing it gradually and experimenting with different products that are out there. I think you'll find that this is a much healthier lifestyle, and you will feel like you have accomplilshed something for yourself and animals who are suffering because of peoples ignorance, and greed. Good Luck!

Well, i dont know what you would be labelled....well done for deciding to do all of this, and to make a difference, BUT you are giving up an awful lot at once. Maybe you should cut down on your portions to start with, or just be a vegy for a while until you adjust? I realise that you want to do this asap, but it is hard,
No vegans donot eat milk or chocolate or eggs or heoney-they are all products from an animal.
for answers to stupid q's go to www.viva.com. It is the best vegy website ever and will help with recipes, news, etc. They give a list of common q's meat eaters ask vegys/vegans and some really clever answers!
Hope that helps, good luck-remember you can buy quorn products (non meat) and soya products, just go to your local supermarket or health food shop. (Holland and BArrets?)

Yes, you can eat chocolate, but it depends on the type of chocolate and what is in it. Stearic Acid is usually in chocolate, and it can be from an animal source, but in chocolate it is usually derived from cocoa butter or another vegetable source.

And why do you want to stop people from asking you why you do this? Yes, it can get annoying, but it gives you a chance to educate people on the health benefits of being vegetarian, and the abuse that animals who are going to be slaughtered endured. When asked why you are a vegan, simply reply, "Why are you NOT a vegan?"
People will get used to it soon enough and will stop asking.

And after you are a vegetarian for a while, you will find that it gets a lot easier and it just becomes part of your life and you aren't constantly thinking, 'I can;t eat this, I can't eat that, I'm a vegetarian.' You know what you can and can't eat.

If you use milk, you're a vegetarian, not a vegan. Vegans don't use animal products at ALL. They would use something like soya milk or almond milk. You can't really stop people from asking you why you do it. Don't be afraid of telling them your real reason is that you think it's wrong to slaughter animals for no real purpose when people can get their energy sources from elsewhere.

ETA: You can't use mayonnaise if you want to be a vegan because it contains eggs. They make vegan mayonnaise. It's healthier because it has fewer calories.

You can use cornstarch and oil and make fake eggs. it takes practice to get it right. Also cornstarch and a little oil can replace eggs in a cake. As for milk.. there's coconut milk, rice milk,
soya milk, You can make vegan mayo with this and fake eggs or buy it ready made at your local health food store. Your Health food store will be glad to help you become either vegan or vegetarian. I'm a vegetarian but nearly vegan!

well if you have any animal products you will not be a vegan. My sister and my neice are vegitarians that eats cheese, milk and eggs, no animal flesh.

When people ask her why, because it is truly healthier, contrary to what many people will tell you. the unhealthy vegetarians are not eating veggies and protein items like soy. They are probably living off pasta and such. Or you could tell them to mind there own diets and leave yours alone.

Yes vegetarians eat chocolate. Chocolate comes from a plant.

Despite the myth of contentment, a dairy cow is the hardest worked of all farmed animals. She nurtures a growing baby inside her while simultaneously producing milk - up to 120 pints a day. To keep the flow going, she is forcibly impregnated every year and her babies are taken away a day or two after birth – year, after year.

Cows produce milk to feed their babies – just like humans. It flows for the best part of a year and then stops. More milk requires more babies. That’s the reality of dairy farming – the visible, obvious side of the industry. But there is another, cruel, much darker side to dairy which few see much and even fewer know about.

Drinking milk is cruel - it’s also unnatural. Only humans drink it after weaning – and milk from a different species, at that. It’s no more natural than drinking badger’s milk or cat’s milk. Designed for calves, many humans find milk hard to digest and the result is allergies. Hormones in milk are linked to ovarian, breast and prostate cancer, as well as juvenile-onset diabetes. The saturated fat, cholesterol and animal protein it contains are linked to many other diseases.
Despite huge public opposition, Britain's unwanted male dairy calves are again being shipped long distances to suffer in veal crates in France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Unable to produce milk and too 'scrawny' for beef, up to 500,000 tiny male dairy calves will be exported to the Continent this year - the unwanted by-products of milk production.

That's 500,000 male dairy calves turned into veal each year because of the milk market. If you want to be vegan for animal rights issues, I strongly suggest re-thinking drinking milk.

I also suggest downloading some podcasts from this website: http://veganfreakradio.com/

You'll be a lacto (that's a dairy consuming) vegetarian. Trying is lying a Swedish person said to me once, so be whatever sort of vegetarian you wish to be, after all it's not only the animals but also your own health that will be better off for being a non-meat eating inhabitant of the earth.
