Go to the doctor. The sounds & swishing you described is profound wheezing. Mucus has built up in the alveoli (little air sacs in you lungs where oxygen goes in your blood and carbon dioxide comes out). It is always serious when you lungs are involved, however I do not belive you will die today. Most likely some illness has infected you lungs. Unless you aspirated something (breathed in). Which cold be a powder, liquid, or a gas.
As for your singing competition, all depends on what you have and what the doctor says.
So at the very least, see a Doctor.

Get in to see your doctor asap. I have a lot of lung trouble and
just got over pluresy and last year I had pnuemonia. Plursey
is the inflammation of the lining of the lung and there is considerable pain with breathing. The crackling is congestion and the swishing could be pnuemonia or
the rubbing lungs. Pluresy can lead to pnuemonia and
either one you really DON"T want. Are you rasping when
you breathe? If so its probably pnuemonia - I couldn't breath
in or out without rasping and it was horrible. Pluresy
is pain more in the side, but hurts like heck with breathing.

Best of luck to you! Get better soon

I had the very same symptoms about 4 weeks ago and the doctor is not going to help you because it's due to a virus. There is a vaccine for the Rhino Virus which seems to have been shoved into the background (the Rhino Virus is said to cause at least 60% or the cold viruses out there). Anti-Biotics used to be prescribed in the past because the theory was that the anti-biotics would kill off bacteria in your system which would allow your body's defence system to concentrate on the virus infecting you; however, because many people stopped taking their anti-biotics before the recommended prescriptions, this has allowed certain bacteria to develop into super bacteria- that's why they tell you to fight of your cold infections naturally now. There is something called "Cold FX" that you can buy which is said to work well.

Okay, I'm not a doctor, but I happen to know that pneumonia is a sickness when you have fluids in your lungs...even if it wasn't that I'd go see a doctor. Forget your singing competition, go see a doctor NOW. If it IS pneumonia it WON'T get better before then.

im no docter, but it sounds like there is phlegm ( mucus stuff) still in your lungs, and when you breathe in it gets moved by the air

i've had heaps of lung infections n stuff like that

try the chemist aswell. they might be able to give you sometihng to break down the mucus.

but go to the docter like, now or asap. he/she will know what it is

DEAR HEART, SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE FLUID ON YOUR LUNGS, SOME GUNK IN THERE. YOU NEED A TREATMENT SOUNDS TO ME ON A NEBULIZER. THEY ARE A WONDER MACHINE. THEY LOOSEN ALL THAT STUFF AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO COUGH IT OFF. DON'T LET IT TIGHTEN BACK UP WHATEVER YOU DO. YOU MAY NEED ANOTHER ROUND OF ANTIBIOTICS. JUST GO TO YOUR DOCTOR AND GET THIS TAKEN CARE OF, FOR IT MAY END UP BEING AN UPPER RESPITORY INFECTION.
