what is the time limit that it will either show negative or positive with no futher change of result? How soon? What is the quickest period?

If you had unprotected sex, then you should get ttested immediately. HIV has a window period of 6 months, whic is why they require you to come back in six months and get tested again

With the new tests they have now, you can test as early as 6-8 weeks from the time you are exposed by some one who is HIV positive or who has AIDS.

My understanding is the most accurate result is after 6 months of sexual intercourse. But to be safe, if you feel you have been exposed, you should get tested immediately, then get tested every few weeks.

Also, check with your dr. on the most safe and appropriate time frame to get tested.

I don't think you can test yourself for HIV. You'll have to go to the doctor or clinic. Usually 6 months after questionable activity is when you should test.
