First of all, the pet food incident IS NOT a "new urban myth". To date, there have been 16 animals confirmed dead as a result of tainted pet food containing rat poisoning---
I think that it is very possible that terrorists are behind all of this, as well as the dead birds that are being found in Texas and around New York. It's obviously not a full fledged terrorist attack, but a pre-attack. They are probably taking notice on how fast and how broad of an area different foods travel. As well as different weather patterns. They have targeted babies, and pets, as well as pretty much everyone else. I'm honestly thinking about starting to grow my own food.
*Botulism (sp?) was found in jarred baby food across this country. It has been recalled.

No it's not a plot, the spinich and the Taco Bell problems were caused by contaminated fertilizer. The cows that the fertilizer came from had E-Coli. The peanuts for the peanut butter could have also come from contaminated cows, another reason could have been employee malfuntion in the cleaning. As far as the pet food, I personally think that this is a new urban myth, because I have not heard anything about it and I listen to the news almost every night. If it is not, the most logical explination of the pet food contamination is employee errror. Just like a home cook can miss read the recipe and add tablespoon insted of a teaspoon, commercial food makers can miss clibrate the ingredent hoper. Most of the time when pets get sick from food it is from high magnisium content.
I really don't think that this is a repeat of the cynide in the Tylanol from the '80's, this is most likely jsut like the glass in the baby food, some one just "F"-ed up.

The cause of the spinach outbreak was announced yesterday - an organic farm that is adjacent to a cattle ranch. There is a creek that runs through both, as well as wild boars. They isolated an exact DNA match to the strain of e-coli. One theory is the large corporate structure that pervades most of our food system nowadays. It used to be that you would get your produce either from growing it yourself or from a local farm If there was any contamination, then it would be isolated. Now, corporate farms combine produce from many different sites, mix them together (think of the bags of spinach or lettuce mixes) & then package them in big lots that are shipped nationwide. If one farm is contaminated, you have now spread the offending bacteria all over.

LOL don't freak out so much. The media loves to exaggerate things. 99.99% of the spinach in the country has been free of e-coli, even during the supposed outbreak. When you gotta go, you gotta go. Relax.

I think it is our society. Not dedicated workers that are careful and take pride in their work. It would not surprise me if terrorist plot, what a better way to kill Americans even their pets getting at our pocket book.
