I don't use sugar. I just toss in the fruit and soymilk and maybe some ice and blend to desired consistancy.

For me, a banana and vanilla soymilk provide adequate sweetness.

I looked at Food Network and the recipes I was able to get up (the first page; When I tried going to the second or third pages, nothing was coming up, just the grid), seemed alterable.

I hope this helps.

A search of "vegan smoothies" yeiled a nice wealth of information. I found one or two new vegan sites with which I'm not familiar.

Smoothies won't work for a diabetic, due to the high fruit (carbohydrate) content.

You dont need artificial sweeneters in smoothies. All you need to do is blend fruit and ice. Regarding sweeteners, have you looked into Stevia?
