Vegetarians eat no animals or slaughter byproducts.
Gelatin (jello) is a slaughter byproduct because the animal must be killed in order to get it.

Some vegetarians do eat it because they don't know better.
If you wont kill an animal to eat its flesh, you probably wont kill an animal to eat its bones and skin.
:)

A vegetarian doesn't eat meat so I would guess it would be dependent on the person. A vegan takes it one step further and won't eat anything that comes from an animal. Thant means they won't drink milk or milk products, eggs, etc. So I would say that a vegan would definitely not eat Jello. I won't eat Jello anymore when I found out what it was made from. It made it so much harder to eat for me.

I'm vegan. I "can" eat gelitain as in I'm physically capable of taking a bite of gelitain, or jelly bean or marshmallow, sticking it into my mouth, chewing and repeating as desired. However, I choose not to, because of what's in it. (Besides, the ground up animal leftovers, there are things like artificial flavoring and coloring, high fructose corn syrup and other chemicals and fake stuff.)

As for "needing" meat for survival. Nope. I've not had a bite of meat for over two years and I'm surviving very well. I'm healthy. I think if one seriously and literally needed meat for survival, then my baby, with whom I've been pregnant for four months would have miscarried by now. Speaking of which, it's time to start dinner. (Brown rice, steamed veggies, tofu and a glass of soy milk. All natural, low fat, high protein and yummy.)

I was turned off on gelatain long before I became a vegetarian. Fourtunately, I learned where my meat and meat products came from as well.

Veg*ns do not eat dead animals. Jello is made from the hooves and bones of dead animals.

Vegans dont eat it because it contains parts of animals, vegans dont eat anything which has anything to do with animals, the stricter ones dont even have milk of cheese, but vegetarians can, they just dont eat meat, and jello isnt meat.

No. You can buy veggie 'jell' though. Some ' jelly ' sweets do not contain gelatine and are made with either corn syrup or fruit pectin. If you are British go to www.aquarterof.com they have a large selection of gelatine free sweets and they are delivered to your door.
