A heart murmur is an extra or unusual sound heard during your heartbeat. The stethoscope is the main tool for detecting a murmur, and the ECG would be a test used to rule out a variety of heart problems. The ECG measures the
rate and regularity of your heartbeat.

Edit......"YourMomma" (below) has a good answer, I will just say it a little different...........
I would think that since a murmur is a sound, then an ECG could see the cause of a murmur but obviously not hear the sound.

NO, a murmur can not be detected by EKG. A murmur is abnormal blood flow thru a faulty heart valve. This is detected by doctor or nurse listening with a stethoscope.
An EKG measures electrical activity of the heart. Many people have normal EKG's with a heart murmur. If a murmur is found, then sometimes an ECHO would be done to find out why.

Yes it can be tested either by ECG or EKG. I have a heart murmur, proper name is Mitral Valve Prolapse. I found out at the age of 39 and the Cardiologist told me I was probably born with it. Now I have to take Amoxicillin before and after the dentist, just in case of infection (through bleeding) going to the heart.

A heart murmur can be detected by a stethoscope. If a physician this it is present, he or she typically refers the patient to obtain an echocardiogram. This process uses sound waves to detect the root cause of the murmur (i.e. hold in a wall of the heart, etc.) Hope this helps!

Not nessicarily the "Murmur" itself because a murmur is a sound but the cause of the heart murmur - hole in the heart, leaking valve, or stenosis of an artery. The cause of the murmur can be detected through an ECG, and EKG or and Echo.
