zct - since you seem to have taken an interest in my life as to where i go & what i do,i just thought i should turn some of my attention to you & your life.i'd like also to fill you in on my evening.i did go back to the casino to try to win back the money i lost last night.i started at the black jack tables,it started off bad & stayed that way until i decided to take my losses(2 grand) & leave early.btw i am not a compulsive gambler, how you got this idea i don't know.now, all i know about you is what you claim in your little bio,& i find you a tad odd in the way you express YOURSELF.in all my life i have NEVER heard someone refer to consuming wine as a "hobby",odd, furthermore you are the first person i've ever heard refer to drinking good wines or fine wines as
drinking"nice" wines, not only a lttle odd but a tad efeminate.i will end this comment by asking you if i am correct in thinking you reside in the state of Nevada, reason being is i don't take being called a liar

listen zct,a couple of things i can draw from your rant are you seem to know alot more than me when it comes to house odds & all that crap(smart a ss) & for you to think that losing 14 grand at a casino in 5 hours is a big deal then i say YOU haven't been around much & also i most probably do"have access" to more money than you.when i go gambling i go with a couple of high school buddies of mine & WE GO MAINLY TO HAVE SOME FUN. we play the games that we LIKE to play namely roulette, blackjack, poker & some sports betting.

I am afraid that i agree with zct, he is a very smart poker player from what i know of him, and he is a good judge of other people. If you did drop that kind of money on gambling then you must have a lot more to spend, so what do you care if you dropped a few grand on some stupid game? Right. All casino games have a built in advantage over you, poker is the only game where the house has no advantage so if you are a better player then everyone else you will get the money in the LONG RUN. In the short run you could still lose so be careful. And even if you were a good player with a lot of skill you would have to play a 50/100 dollar game for several hours to make a profit like 14k back.

I don't believe you for one second.
Update: I doubt you are even in Atlantic City. I just find it hard to believe that someone who writes like you has access to $14K to squander on 'roulettes.' Also if you were such a compulsive gambler that you decide to go back to try and win it back, you would already have been broke a long time ago with that mentality.
Another Update: Thanks for the insults about my profile, and more of your wonderful writing. Who knows maybe I was wrong, maybe you do have more money than sense. Now you are claiming to have wasted another $2K, chasing the $14K you squandered on roulette. But now you want to meet me in Vegas and bet me $16K that you are not a phony. At this point in time I neither know nor care whether you are a liar or an idiot. What I do know is that you are a sad character indeed if what you say is true. Only a compulsive gambler or an idiot would throw away that kind of money on a game that has a 5.26% house edge. You might as well put $14K in a slot and hope you win the big jackpot. Some slots have a house edge of less than 3%.
And another update: It's hardly being a smart a55 knowing the house edge in roulette. It is pretty common knowledge. If blowing $14K in five hours makes you happy, and trying to win it back on blackjack the follow night and losing another two makes you happy, then go for it. Those casinos just love people like you. They will probably comp you a nice room for that kind of action too. But the bottom line is you have squandered $16K, and that's pretty dumb. After all if you were buying a new car, you'd do a little research right? If you were investing in some stock you'd ask a few questions right? But you walk into a casino and play the ultimate sucker game with a huge house edge, lose your money, and then suggest that educating yourself about what you are doing is just for a 'smart as5' like me.
Well you know what they say: A fool and his money are soon parted. Enjoy it while you still have it.

Any game where skill is involved (blackjack, poker, etc) is probably not the best thing for you to play. All you have to do is make one mistake and you have totally ruined the odds.
Even though casinos are quick to let you know that blackjack has the lowest house advantage of any table game, they won't let you know that it has the highest _actual_ house advantage because nobody (except the dealer) plays perfectly 100% of the time. All it takes is one mistake and you've ruined your odds.
If you play poker on the weekends, there are older, retired folks there who do nothing but play poker all week long. They wait for the weekend warriors to show up, then they gang up on you and empty your pockets.
Stick to roulette. If you lose at least you will know it wasn't because you made a judgement error in blackjack, or you weren't as skilled in poker as the retired gents that spend 8 hours a day preying on the recreational gamblers.
Good luck.

Don't try to make back gambling losses. If $14,000 is as much as (or more than) your are willing (or can afford) to lose, quit gambling until you have built up your bankroll again.
If you do have more that you can afford to gamble, I suggest you choose games that give you better odds than roulette. I don't play high states in poker games because I know I am not that good at it. I do win sometimes, but usually I lose. If you are good at it, your odds at the poker table are better than your odds at roulette.
If you learn how to play it correctly, craps has about the least unfavorable odds in the casino, unless you are from Ontario where dice games are not allowed in casinos.
If you learn to count cards, blackjack can give you even better odds.
If you do not know these, you can try baccarat or mini-baccarat for reasonable odds.

I know losing that kind of money is not fun. I've been there. But I also know that losing more is worse. I've been there too.

Roulette has horrible odds for the player. Choose another game. You might be good at blackjack or video poker or craps. These three have the best odds in the casino; however, long term the casino usually wins.
