odd work situation?

Question

A collegue of mine at work handed me her CRB form (police check) and the place of employment was not our establishment.I challenged her and she said it was her sisters yet it had her name on it. Not sure what to think because she is working for us on a work permit. She is from Zimbabwi.
I rang the other establishment that was on the crb form and they said she works there.
the concern i have is: If she has 2 jobs then she should declare it.
I suspect her sister might be working at that establishment posing as her.

What can i do to check up?

I do not kmow for sure if she is breaking the law!

The issue is not really that she has 2 jobs. The main concern is that her sister could be working at another establishment in her name.

It is normal to have a CRB from a previous or other employer - although often the new employer will want to obtain a new CRB check (this is up to the employer, the employee cannot apply for it themselves). It doesn't make sense to have a CRB in your name belonging to someone else - it can only refer to the person named.

Obviously, having two or more jobs is usually fine, depending on the work permit - although work permits as such are normally issued for one particular job, when people say "work permit" they often just mean "permission to work", which means exactly that, permission to do any work. As far as declaring it goes, it is up to the employer in each place to deduct NI and tax and pass it on with the employee's details to the Inland Revenue.
Her sister may be posing as her at the other establishment? Well, any place that requires a CRB check should have straighforward procedures in place to check the identity and status of the person they're emloying, otherwise it's a bit pointless getting a CRB check done. If something dodgy was going on, it would be a bit dim of the young lady to mention her sister.
All you can do is make sure that you have done the checks required of you as an employer, that she is who she says she is and is allowed to work here - you need to see her passport or other acceptable ID, and something from the Home Office saying she is allowed to work.
On the subject, personally I think it is ridiculous that people who are legally present in the UK are not allowed to work.

Anybody can have 2 jobs - its not against the law!!! However the person needs to abide by working time directives and not work a night shift followed by a day shift etc.

The organisation can ask for a 2nd CRB check to be done, re-look at references, have a conversation with the other employer etc. If you are concerned, you can get advice from Criminal Records Bureau.

(I know of a lot of staff who have more than 1 job!!)

If you are working for an organisation that requires a CRB check, then I guess you work with vulnerable adults / children. if you have suspicions, you need to report them!! You can do so internally, under your whistleblowing policy - although make sure you differentiate between your facts, and guesses!!!

you could call the other place and ask to speak to the person by name . If they get her to the phone you will know who it is.

It sounds suspicious , why is she giving you her sisters CRB form with her name on it ?

If you know that she is breaking the law and do nothing about it you are as guilty as she is .i think that she and her sister are up to no good they will not help you if you get into trouble so you should go to your boss and let him know about your concerns

Why does it concern you. She probably has 2 jobs and there is no legal reason why she cant and you seem to be poking your nose in other peoples business. Most immigrants have to have 2 jobs because they have large families back home to feed. Leave it alone.
