Take 3 cloves of garlic and slice it in pieces. Sprinkle some sea salt and begin to mash it with your kitchen knife. Place this in a small bowl and add rosemary and thyme(1/2 tea. each), mash until softened. Add some olive oil and mix well. Lift the skin of the chicken around the breast and legs. If you are gentle you can reach all the way to the back of the breast and around the thigh and wing. Take a small amount of the garlic mix in your hands and start at the back of the chicken. Work around the leg and thigh(as far as you can go). Also rub some of the mix into the cavity. Place it into a hot oven(400F) for 15 minutes and then lower to 350 until brown and crispy. Enjoy

There are lots of recipes for cooking garlic and chicken, even one called Chicken with 40 Cloves of Garlic, so not sure which you're thinking of unless it's a Chinese version sometimes called that in restaurants.
You can also cook chicken with garlic (and perhaps other things) by marinating it or using a rub, grilling it, baking it, braising it, stir-frying it, etc., etc.
Here are many recipes though... maybe what you're looking for will be there:

(I make one version of simple garlic-y chicken by browning my chicken a bit in a skillet --sometimes I don't even do that-- then adding water to the skillet till it comes about half-way up the chicken... to the water around the chicken pieces, I'll add minced garlic so that it infuses the water (the chicken will infuse the water too, pop the lid on and "braise" for a short time till the chicken's done.
I then remove the chicken and thicken the remaining water/garlic with instant flour --Wondra-- to make a garlic "gravy." It's really tasty, quick, and quite lowfat too if no oil or little oil is used to brown the chicken first.)
