You have tiny capillaries lining your lungs. This is where oxygen is exchanged in your blood. If you cough hard enough, you can rupture these tiny capillaries, and you may taste blood, but not see it because of the minute quantity.
If you have a strong cough, you can't get the mucous out of your lungs, or your cough has been persistent for several days, you should see your doctor.

cough /sputum contitutes of sticky materials arising from blood vessels in the mucus membrain which passes through upper respiratory tract like sinus, lungs.as it arises from blood vessel's mucus membrain it carries dead white blood cells,.some,RBC's,lymphocites,WBC, water,.salty compounds etc. so sometimes white sputum (cough) can seems to be tasted like salty blood,..but if in sputum R/M/E (Routine and Microscopic Examination) and in culture test amount of RBC(Red Blood Cell) indicates a significant amount then some probability of some lungs infection likeTB cannot be overlooked or neglected.
