I have had a bad, dry cough for the past week and a half....
I was taking a teaspoon of tussionex every night...usually that knocks the cough out right away, but it never worked.

I went to the doc today, she said I had bronchitis and prescribed codeine. I am still coughing.

I am getting worried. This has never happened before. Does anyone out there have this too? If so, what have you done? And please do NOT mention drinking hot drinks. I have enough hot tea inside my stomach to serve all of China.

I wake up in the middle of the night...not coughing, but my abdomen is contracting as in a cough. It is the strangest thing. My doc said that some coughs are just really bad, but I feel very frustrated. My husband came down with the same illness on the very same day...almost to the minute.

There really isn't much fever involved. The highest I had was 100.5.

Are you coughing up anything with this dry cough? Sometimes coughing so much, can bring about blood, or remant bits of mucus. If so, you need to go back to your doctor.

Is it only the cough that is lingering or do you have 'rattling' in your chest from the bronchitis? If you have an infection, you need antibiotics, NOT codeine.

If the cough is happening because you have not 'cleared your lungs' - you need to get some sort of chest X-ray to see what is going on.

Typically with cold/flu - coughs do linger for sometime. I had a friend who had a cough for 6 months.

When antibiotics, penicillins, codeine and all the Western medicine he tried did not work, I recommended homeopathy and told him to go to the health food store and have them order Dr. Michael Murray's LUNG, BRONCHIAL & SINUS HEALTH respiratory tablets.

He took them for 2 weeks and was relieved they worked, since for 6 months he tried everything else and he had the cough up until I recommended this stuff.

But I am not a doctor and neither are you.....so get a second opinion. Get off the Tussonex stuff.....

Good luck, feel better!!!

Subject: Coughing

Sorry, no graphic for this one, and don't laugh, it works 100% of the time although the scientists at the Canada Research council (who discovered
it) aren't sure why.

To stop nighttime coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks.

Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief.

Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.

I heard the head of the Canada Research Council describe these findings on the part of their scientists when they were investigating the
effectiveness and usage of prescription cough medicines in children as compared to alternative therapies like accupressure. Just happened to tune in A.M. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so, I listened.

It was a surprising finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, and in addition, to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.

Lolly tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me, this was a deep, ( incredibly annoying!) every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and she slept cough free for hours every night that she used it.

as above, plus...
consider getting a test for pertussis (whooping cough) if you are having bad coughing fits.
