They will do a chest ex ray followed by blood work to check your CBC your white blood count, if it is really high that is 1 sign you have pneumonia,if it is too high they will want to admit you into the hospital and give you IV antibiotics. Please don't wait, white blood count could get to high, which is a sign the infection is spreading to other parts of your body. If your white blood count is only slightly high they will give you medication to take at home.

Well it depends on how bad it is. Now a days many doctors try to give medication a chance to work while the person is at home. They will give a strong antibiotic that many times works. You need to go to the doctor and find out for sure if it is pneumonia or another respiratory illness.

If you can't breathe, and have a very high fever go now.
If you can breathe and manage your symptoms see a family doctor (if you don't have one head to the ER).
They will test your oxygen level - and a chest x-ray.
They can treat you if it's not to severe. Some Pneumonia cases are not something to mess around with. (I nearly lost my dad as he thought he had a bad flu)!

You'll have some tests - one where you puff into a tube, one where they put a clamp on your finger to test your blood oxygen (doesn't hurt), blood taken, chest xray. They will listen to your breathing, take your temp & blood pressure, and that kind of stuff. Depending on the results, they may do a CAT scan (when I get pneumonia, it doesn't show up on an xray). They will give you breathing treatments (you inhale medicine) if you need them. You'll get medicine and told to go home to rest, drink plenty of liquids.

what made you say you have pneumonia? try to visit your doc and he will prescribe antibiotics. unless you have Aids, cancer or old, you will be subjected for hospital admission. but then, try to increase your fluid intake, like water and orange or lemon juice. it'll help. pneumonia is a disease that healthy individuals can fight off, unless you have the conditions i mentioned above. also if you have persistent difficulty of breathing and seem to expectorate rusty or bloody phlegm, that's also a cue that you have to go to your doctor.

xray after xray after xray. breathing treatments, hard pats to your lungs to break up the fluids....medicine....IV's...crying babies....stress out mom...oh sorry that's when I go to the hospital. In any rate, I should know, my kids has a illness where they catch pneumonia very easy. so its a routine I am aware of.

They will do some tests (they won't hurt), give you some antibiotics, and hopefully send you home. Be sure to take all the anti's even tho you feel better. You don't want to get sick again.
