instead of focusing on their current life on the earth (which is proven to exist)?
i just don't think it's fair that they have to miss out on all this life has to offer because they are so focused on their next life in heaven. i don't think god would have put you here if he didn't want you to have a little fun before you die.
please enlighten me. (but not with bible quotes, personal thoughts only please)
i'm pagan, we get to have fun in both realms : )

redeemed - you missed the point! life here is proven, afterlife (no matter which faith you follow, including mine) is not proven.

jim - first of all, i don't worship idols, i worship gods.
secondly you say paganism can't withstand the test of time? HELLO, paganism was around LONG before christ, and is still very prominent now (you may not see it unless you no where to look though)

"what is your idea of fun? if you consider partyin, drinkin or smokin fun, then you are confused. fun does not include alcohol or drugs, that is called slowly killing yourself... you can have fun without those things. im not implying that that is your lifestyle. but i dont think God minds if we have fun, as long as we respect our bodies as the temple of God"
don't worry, i don't use drugs and i don't drink lots. but just to get you thinking, isn't good health the slowest form of suicide????

Sometimes we do get to much caught up in thinking about heaven because where our treasure is, is where our heart is. We are citizens of Heaven and long for our Home. But we can and do still enjoy life here on earth....Like the beautiful sunshine I see outside my window right now.

Forget about all this afterlife nonsense, it doesn't exist, have fun now its your only chance. Since man first had an intelligent thought he felt it necessary to invent a superior being, (a god) that he could worship, often requiring human sacrifice or murdering others that do not have their beliefs, all gods are man made, as is the devil, there have been thousands for different gods invented by man over thousands of years, none have ever been proven to exist and never will be, can a human being be more gullible? I think not.
Your question singles out Christians but applies to all religions. The lack of beliefs of an atheist like me cant be questioned, I know I am right and am happy to live this one life I am living given to me by nature without any involvement by any sort of god.
Chris.

Jesus proved it and spoke that life is not only about this dimension but an unseen one.
Most Christians were burnt out of "fun" before they came to realize what life was really about. Now they have great joy in the knowledge of God and who they are and what they mean to Him personally. Why do you think they want to convert people? Living by faith is far more exciting? We want everyone to know Jesus in a personal way because there is nothing comparable on Earth to this experience.

Because our life on the Earth is a millisecond to the time spent in Eternity. Life is not meant to be fair but to be the path God has chosen to send you down. You can truly enjoy life as a Christian if you give up pagan beliefs of the sins of the flesh and idol worship. To be one with God is to know that he provides for all, loves unconditionally and has a place for you in his heart.
The pagan idols and practices you maintain are shallow and without love once you truly experience Christianity. This is why Pagan practices cannot sustain over time while Christianity survives through all trials and tumults.
I pray that God moves into your soul and you relinquish the Pagan beliefs before it is too late.

the resurrection of Jesus Christ is more than valid for proof that a greater reality exists than the temporary home we have here. why focus on a life that is full of pain and sorrow and woe that lasts maybe 70 years? God allowed us to step into a world of sin so we could understand and be greatful for the good things that he has in store for us in the world to come. He didn't want us like the angels who will never be able to understand the difference between health and sickness, hate and love, death and life, sin and salvation. the negative just magnifies the positive. He wanted us to be able to appreciate all that he has to give us.

A focus on the afterlife is a cultural aspect that was picked up from the Egyptians. Jews on the other hand have varying opinion on whether or not an afterlife exists, but it's not considered very important because there's an emphasis on what you do now.

Haven't you learned yet?
Christianity has been used (since about 3-400) as a tool of social control. (Though they don't have a monopoly on the whole social control thing. Other religions operate on the same principle.)
Therefore, the idea of "heaven" was used to keep the oppressed rabble quiet--they'd be martyrs here and monarchs in the next.
"Hell" was to keep people in line, a supernatural "naughty chair" to threaten people into good behavior.
It was all about keeping people focused on their behavior here by making them worried about their experience after death.
Instead of the REAL reason to be good--it gives you spiritual enlightenment, which makes you and the world better. Balance, compassion, wisdom...all good. No heaven or hell involved. It gives people a reason to be moral, but it doesn't necessarily keep them obeying cruel masters and governments.
Like Machiavelli said, it's best to be loved AND feared, but if you can only pick one, pick fear, because it's much easier to maintain.
Nasty greedy religions and governments and business tycoons never were good at getting people to love them.
So they used heaven/hell as a way of instilling fear.

we are only here for the blink of an eye. Heaven and Hell are eternal, so I think it is very prudent to focus on eternity instead of the moment. Fun??? Fundies have lots of fun!! Lets try it, raise your hands up and worship the Lord!! Wasn't that fun??? I feel like having church right now!!

Because DEATH in/from this current life is pretty well proven.
Can't say I've met anyone from this worldly life who didn't die from it yet...but go ask some funeral parlors for me...maybe they know more than I do...LOL
Why is it you think that all Christians 'have no fun'?
