Sorry, no graphic for this one, and don't laugh, it works 100% of the time although the scientists at the Canada Research council (who discovered
it) aren't sure why.

To stop nighttime coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks.

Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief.

Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.

I heard the head of the Canada Research Council describe these findings on the part of their scientists when they were investigating the
effectiveness and usage of prescription cough medicines in children as compared to alternative therapies like accupressure. Just happened to tune in A.M. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so, I listened.

It was a surprising finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, and in addition, to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.

Lolly tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me, this was a deep, ( incredibly annoying!) every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and she slept cough free for hours every night that she used it.

If you can put him in a hot steamy shower and he stops coughing for a few hours then he's got a problem with his airways. Give it a try over the weekend. If he's coughing like that then he might have a lot of things bother his airways and it's worth figuring it out now. if you see he gets it at the same time every year, that's a sure tell. If he only gets it in spring and fall, that's a sure tell. If he's only had it for a week or two and never had it before, then give him some cough medicine and see if it goes away.

Don't forget to share your concerns with your parents. Maybe they're already taking care of it, but maybe they haven't noticed. Just be nice about it.

Coughs can come from many different things. Including colds, allergies, certain disease, etc.. I say don't worry try a cough syrup like Robintussin. If the cough persists take him to the doc for complete evaluation. Only a medical adviser can tell you!

No one here can say for certain what is causing your brother's cough. They can suggest only possibilities. Are you his legal guardian? I ask this because you want to know what YOU can give him. This is normally the responsibility of a parent or adult guardian. Please do not attempt to treat his cough without a diagnosis and recommendation from a physician. Are your parents involved? They should be the ones concerned about this and they should be the ones to take him him to a pediatrician.

Check with a Doctor. He might have asthma. He might just have a cold though. Try Vick's Vapor rub on his chest if he is congested. For a sore throat, fill a tablespoon 3/4 of the way with honey. Fill the other 1/4 with lemon juice, then have him swallow it. Home remedies. They work every time!

He needs to see a specialist. It could be allergies, asthma, or even reflux. My youngest son stopped coughing all night when he went on Prevacid for reflux. But first we need to find out what the cause is, and then treat the problem.
