Atherosclerotic plaques are comprised of cholesterol, fibrin, thrombin, platelets and other debris that attached to the plaque. They occur in large and medium sized vessels and tend to occur faster in smokers, diabetics, hypertensives, dyslipemics and syndrome X patients.
