Last Monday I had sex with a man whose counterparts were fairly large (compared to me). It was very painful for me considering I hadn't been sexually active in a while.

Anyway, shortly afterwards I noticed that I was very sore and a little bit itchy. I was even bleeding but after a few days I came to the conclusion that it was just the beginning of my menstrual cycle.

Now, my period is gone but the itchiness and soreness still continues. I woke up this morning and I am very, very swollen to the point where I'm scared and concerned. I have discharge but there is no odor or bumps. It's just the excessive swelling and soreness that's frightening me.

I know that there's something wrong, but I'm afraid to tell my friends or family. Plus, where do I go for help? Should I be screened for an STD at a clinic first or should I see a gyno about the swelling?

First of all.... If your under the age of 18 and feel that you cannot speak to your parent's about this. I would suggest going to a local planned parenthood. Not only do they have a Gyn on staff they can very easily check for abnormalities (STD) and injuries. At low cost or no cost,Depending on your situation.Confidentiality law's prohibit them from discussing your care and treatment to anyone other than you, regardless of your age!!
If you are over the age of 18, they will still treat you.The same rules apply.
If you have insurance coverage and are not the insurance policy holder, for example mom or dad have you on their insurance. It's a simple matter of mentioning that you may have a bladder infection and would like to make an appointment to see the doc. General practioner's can perform pap smears and run tests as any normal Gyn could. He will be able to address the swelling and itching, injury and screen you for S.T.D"s as well. You need to mention that you would like this visit to be confidential and any calls or result's should only be discussed with you.
If those options above do not seem feesable.Call your local health department. You can find their number online or in the phone book. They will assist you in finding the care you need.Free clinics are everywere and in some cases you can be seen the same day.
I can't stress enough the importance of patient confidentiality. You have right's and there are laws to protect your medical information from getting into the wrong hands at any age.Clinic's are legally bound to protect your confidentiality. So, please if your concerned about anyone finding out.. I hope this helped.Hope you feel better!!

I strongly support Planned Parenthood. It is a great organization and I have had positive experiences with the staff there. Don't be afraid, everything you talk with them about and the results of your tests are confidential (meaning they can't tell your parents).

The only thing you do not want to do it not do anything. Not knowing is so much worse than knowing.

Also, when you're at PP, pick up some free condoms. They don't protect against everything and it's not 100% safe but it's better than nothing.

Take care of yourself!

Go to planned parenthood. They specialize in STD's and that is what it sounds like you have. If it is something else they they can treat that as well. Good luck and get tested as soon as posible.

I think you have an infection. Go to the GYN. You probably just need to take some antibiotics and you'll be okay.

Just go to the gynecologist. She will be able to check for STD's as well as the other concerns you have. Please get it checked soon though!
