Okay my daughter is now 5 months old, she makes this noise when she is sleeping, like a grunting, snoring, congested almost noise (kind of hard to explain the sound)her doctor says that it has something to do with a flap in her throat or something. Something along the lines as it doesn't function properly yet, and it is common in alot of babies... my new doctor is forgein, and when she tried to explain it to me I just could not understand what she was saying... does any one know what this is called, and where I can get more information on it?
(When you lay her on her stomach its not as bad....)

My baby did that too, and my pediatrician said that babies grunt, etc. because they are babies. He was right with my daughter...it stopped.

I think your doctor was trying to tell you about your baby's epiglottis not functioning well yet. The epiglottis is a "flap" that covers your windpipe when you swallow so that food does not go into your windpipe and you choke. For babies, it takes a while for them to gain control over it. It is normal for some babies to make noise when they are sleeping.

I cannot belive your doctor is so not caring. I would take my child to an ENT doctor. This is a conditon called laryngomalacia. My son has this and the tracheomalacia. This should always be checked by an ent doctor to make sure that repair is not needed.

If you can't understand what she's saying, ask the doctor to write it down for you. Then ask her to draw a picture so you can get a better idea what she's saying.
