Hi all, I had my 2 hour glucose test yesterday and the results showed a slightly elevated fasting result and a high 1 hour result. But then after 2 hours the level dropped to normal range.
I am feeling so so so ill after eating anything at all and feel like I am cracking up now. My symptoms of palpitations, tiredness and weakness occur in the first 60-75 minutes after eating anything.
Whats wrong with me and what can they do for me?
Please help me out I am at breaking point now.
Thanks. I have to go to see specialist midwife next tuesday because of the 1 hour result being so high. I am 28 weeks pregnant.

Hi Minnie,

Ok, first of all take a deep breath, calm yourself down because stress is not good for you or bubba.

I know where you are coming from because the same thing happened to me with 1 exception... you have a midwife specialist who is taking your test results seriously & acting upon them - which is the right thing.

If your Glucose Intolerance Test result came back as being over 5.5 then its a good indication you have developed Gestational Diabetes (GD). You have also described some classic symptoms of GD.

Now please don't worry, because with a good diet & good pre-natal care your pregnancy can go to term without complications & both you & bubba will be well.

Having said that I also want to draw to your attention (and it's fairly intense & worrying) about the complications that GD can cause if not monitored & treated correctly. I am providing you with a link of a topic I did a few weeks ago.

Please ONLY read this if you can look at it objectively... there are also some very good links as well.

Make sure you write down all of your questions that are no doubt swimming in your head and ask the midwife at your appointment to answer ALL of them. If you feel you are being brushed aside, INSIST on answers & explanations.

Most likely you will be put on a low GI diet for the remainder of the pregnancy & your labour will be monitored constantly.

Good luck & please dont fret or stress because this can make things alot worse. Take care :-))))

***You can email me thru Yahoo if you like to ask anything, ok?

Do you feel ill after eating "anything"? Or is it after eating high carb food, ie...potatoes, rice, chips.

Try to cut back on the carbs. Seeing as how carbs break down to sugars when they hit your system. Drink a lot of water. And try to eat like 6 small, nutritious meals per day instead of 3 large ones.

A midwife is no person to consult on metabolism. Forget the one hour glucose. If the 2 h is normal all is well. It sounds to me like the troubles many women have with pregnancy.
