just last 2 weeks ago, i found that my bro, who i love dearly had HIV.. my life seems so different, i dun want to lose him, yet im freaking out..
I've been living with him for the past 6 months.. We share food, we share bed, we share drink, even he sometimes used my sruff.. i remember i read a case about a mom, whose son is infected, the mom got infected because the mom help to put some medication on the son's wound. this makes me even freakin out, cause once i remember i help my bro on his wet wound... i know im paranoid, but can i get infected? on the day he know he result, I actually went to test my blood, and the result is non reactive, but im still paranoid..especially when i read that it took 6-12 weeks for the virus to be able to detect.. about 4 weeks ago i got very bad sore throat, and flu like illness too.. even my hubby haa a prolong dry cough for almost 3weeks. i'm very very sad about him know, yet i'm worried so much i'll get infected.. the worst thing, i remember once he use my hubby's razor and get cut, buy my hubby didn't get cut, but guess after sometimes my hubby also use the same razor, can he get infected? he haven't do the blood test tho..

You can get HIV from the blood or certain other body fluids of an infected person.

When fluid that is infected with HIV gets into your blood, then you can get infected too.

HIV can be present in:

Blood
Vaginal fluid
Semen/sperm
Breast milk
How is HIV passed from one person to another?
HIV is passed through the transmission of body fluid from one person to another.

Some of the ways HIV transmission can occur between people include:

Sex
Sharing needles
Mother to child, before or after birth
Infected body fluids in contact with mucous membranes or cuts in the skin

It is more likely your current symptoms are from a respiratory virus.

It is important to remember that in most cases the HIV/AIDS virus is spread by extremely close contact that involves the exchange of body fluids.

If you are concerned you may be exposed or have been exposed have a test done. If the first one is negative repeat in about 6 months. Also because you mentioned your brother is infected that means you should wear latex gloves whenever you may be exposed to any body fluids.(treating wounds, etc. this includes scratches.)

You cannot get the virus by kissing someone, hugging them, or from the toilet.(some of the more common misconceptions)

it is my understanding that once the "aids" virus is exposed to the open air it is immidiately killed ................so the razor should not be a problem as far as needles passing it this is because sometimes blood is drawn into the hollow portion of the needle and therfore has no contact with the open air if someone else uses the needle they can inject this tainted blood into themselves ......dont quote me but this is my understanding as for treating an open wound unless you had an open cut also so that tainted blood could enter your bloodstream without comeing into contact with the open air then you should be safe .
